Sweet, steady Smuckers is ready for his forever home!

At 4 years old and 85 pounds, Smuckers is one handsome German Shepherd with a personality to match. He came into the shelter as a stray with a little something extra on his tail - jelly! And just like that, Smuckers had his name.

Smuckers is calm, affectionate, even-tempered, and loves getting attention from his people. He’s done well with female dogs and has been working on his leash skills with ASR volunteers. He’s crate trained, obedient, intelligent, eager to please, and has just enough goofy mixed in to keep things fun.

This easygoing guy is ready to leave his stray days behind and find a family to call his own. If you’re looking for a big, lovable Shepherd who is past the puppy stage but is still plenty of fun, Smuckers might be your guy.

You know what day it is! Follow Up Friday coming at ya!

Look at these two stunning pups! While this follow up Friday mainly focuses on RiverVA, now known as Luna, you may recognize the other dog in the photos too! It’s former ASR dog, Deacon!

Luna & Deacons family had this to say. “Luna (formerly River) has really been the missing piece to our family we didn't know we needed. It has only been a few months since she joined our home, but it honestly feels like she has always been part of our family.”

They go on to say “she is such a sweet, happy, affectionate girl who instantly charms everyone she meets, and she has brought so much love and laughter into our lives. She is truly more than we could have ever asked for and we are completely in love with her. One of the biggest joys has been watching her bond with her adopted older brother, Deacon. They love playing together, and seeing them play is always one of the highlights of our day. We always knew Deacon was the fast runner, but who knew Luna could outrun him!? She definitely gives him a run for his money every time they chase each other around the yard! “

I mean really…does it get any better than that?! How absolutely wonderful for both Luna and Deacon and their family too! Thanks to them for not only sharing this incredibly sweet update with us, but also for being repeat adopters!

Cat lovers, we see you - meet Kimmy!

One of the questions we hear ALL the time is: “Are they good with cats?”

Well, for Kimmy, we actually have an answer: YES!

Kimmy is currently living in a foster home with two cats and has done wonderfully with them. And if your household includes a few more four legged family members, even better - she’s also shared her foster home with a revolving cast of dogs, some staying for just a day or two and others for a couple of weeks. Kimmy has gotten along well with all of them, even happily sharing her toys.

For a girl whose life started with far too little of the good stuff, Kimmy is certainly making up for lost time.

Born from an unwanted litter and spending her early days confined with very little interaction, Kimmy didn’t get the socialization every puppy deserves. Understandably, she can be a little on the shy side initially when meeting new people. Give her some kindness and patience, though, and her sweet, curious personality begins to shine.

And once she’s comfortable? This girl knows how to have FUN.

Kimmy loves tug-of-war with her foster parents or canine friends, chasing balls, searching for hidden objects, racing around the yard and heading out for walks. She’s active, playful and even has the potential to make a great running or hiking buddy.

Give her a little time to feel safe, and you’ll get to watch a shy girl turn into the playful, loving companion she was always meant to be.
