Austin Opera and the University of Texas at Austin Butler School of Music team up for a free series discovering various aspects of opera. These interactive workshops are held at Austin Public Library branches.

Join us for our final FREE workshop of the summer on Thursday afternoon July 25, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at the University Hills Branch as we explore how our previous workshops’ elements: the singers, the story, the set designers, the orchestra, and the choreographer, come together for a live opera performance.

✨Austin Opera is thrilled to announce GENERAL AUDITIONS for the upcoming 2024-2025 season on August 16 & 17, 2024. Our 2024-2025 season includes Puts and Campbell’s THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE, Verdi’s REQUIEM, and Puccini’s MADAME BUTTERFLY in collaboration with OPERA San Antonio.

Austin Opera and the University of Texas at Austin Butler School of Music team up for a free series discovering various aspects of opera. These interactive workshops will be held at Austin Public Library branches throughout June and July.

🎼Join us for our next workshop Tuesday afternoon June 25, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the Windsor Park Branch as we explore the set and design elements the creative team builds and uses to bring the opera to life.

✨Exciting news! Austin Opera’s Curator of Hispanic & Latinx Programming Claudia Chapa joins the team as our new full-time Associate Director of Artistic Administration.

Mexican mezzo-soprano Claudia Chapa has performed numerous leading roles for Austin Opera, most recently as Lupita in Cruzar la Cara de la Luna. Claudia was appointed as the inaugural Curator of Hispanic & Latinx Programming in 2022 and will continue to serve in this capacity. We welcome Claudia into this new role contributing to the company’s programming and casting alongside General Director & CEO Annie Burridge, Sarah and Ernest Butler Music Director Timothy Myers, and the Austin Opera staff.

✨Celebrate the inaugural season of the Austin Opera Resident Stars with a showcase this Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at KMFA (41 Navasota St, Austin, TX 78702). This Showcase will feature our 2023-2024 Resident Stars, soprano Audrey Ballish, soprano Kristin Bilodeau, tenor Willie Casper, and mezzo-soprano Spencer DesChenes, performing a concert of arias, art songs, and musical theater highlighting each of their unique voices and talents. ✨Join us for our upcoming Concert at the Consulate: Children's Day/Día del Niño event this Saturday, April 6, in collaboration with the Consulado General de México en Austin, Todos Juntos Learning Center, and Armstrong Community Music School. Teaching artists Cristina Flores and Monica Salas will engage kids through opera and music during this bilingual, one-hour interactive program and performance.

The National Endowment for the Arts invited Austin Opera General Director and CEO Annie Burridge to speak at the 212th National Council on the Arts Convening tomorrow in Washington, DC!
