here is another color makeover but i bet you wouldn’t be able to tell! here i replaced ari’s allover vivid color with peekaboo vivids instead. you guessed it - low maintenance! to make a peekaboo or a money piece really pop i like to gloss the rest of the hair a bit darker. it adds contrast & helps the two sections enhance each other ☯️😌⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

the shine on this lady ✨✨✨ half a year ago or so, dorothy came to me with BLUE hair. can you even believe it 🧐 after a big color correction, we now just gloss her hair every few months to try out a new shade & also to turn up that shine. glosses are a wonderful way to dip a toe into color without high maintenance commitment. have you tried it?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

i love all the colors in this photo! the combination of anfisa’s eye color, lip color & milky sweater, the smoky gold background & the cocoa brown hair with our baby toffee money piece is giving me all the feels. i love taking it all in! every image, in photo & in person, has a color story & i love combining it all harmoniously 🎶

glazes are a great way to add a semi-opaque coat of color while allowing the dimension of you natural hair - or your highlights! - show through, which i personally prefer for my clients over the wig-like look of a completely opaque color 🤓🦁❤️‍🔥

balayage is a great way to add visual texture to hair that tends to lay very straight. even when worn straight, the dimension of a hand painted balayage will add a look of separation & movement to the hair! 〰️💓〰️⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

chin length bob or shoulder length bob? why not both? 😎 to copy loren’s soft waves, spray your clean, towel-dried hair with a salty spray & distribute evenly. take large sections & twist them in different directions then let it all air dry! (or diffuse for a faster result) once completely dry, get that full, cloudy texture by brushing through with a dense brush & separating with your fingers 🦁⛅️

more babylights! this time for avery, who wanted to go from a darker blonde to a light golden blonde 🌟🌟🌟 50 foils later & now we’re nice & bright 😎 after a full full highlight like this, you’re able to choose your own path as they grow out; blend them to grow them out completely like an ombré, keep them up with a mini highlight every couple of months or gloss with a fun new tone! the only hard part is it’ll be tough to choose 🤔

when i was in middle school my mom & i would box dye each other’s hair 🤪 we also dabbled in highlighting caps 🍊🐯🍊 she says that i would get mad because i would do a pretty good job on her hair but my hair wouldn’t turn out as nice 😒 now we just try to leave the hair stuff to me 👧🏼🎨🖌

nothing can give me more hair envy than working with such beautiful, self-blayaged NATURAL color 🤤🤤🤤 unfair!! but at least i can live vicariously through you all 😌 here we did a ton of de-bulking & a ton of layering to leave the hair much more manageable with airdry-worthy shape! 🏄🏽‍♀️

my go-to method for styling rachel’s hair is to twist & diffuse! essentially i’m trying to copy her natural airdry pattern, which is lovely & wavy & free. but that all starts with the haircut! i love using a razor to carve alongside the natural wave pattern, separating & shaping where needed. all the work i do is truly to help my clients have effortlessly cool hair 😌

a fun way to add some variety to your short bob is to add waves… but sometimes your hair can be too short to fit around the barrel of a curling iron 😩 in that case you can make flat waves instead! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
after splitting your hair into groups (like in school!) take a small section & comb it out to remove any tangles. starting near the roots, insert the flat iron as if you’re about to pull it straight down as usual but this time you’re going to open & close the plates, tap tap tapping it all the way down really slowly. while you do that, bend the hair strand into an S shape! when you clap the iron around the S, you’re actually helping to freeze it in place.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
continue all the way around until you have a bunch of S’s; keep them facing all the same way on one side of the head then opposite on the other side. once all your hair is cool, spritz with a light hold hairspray to keep things shiny or a texture/salt spray to add matte texture then brush or squish into place. fun! 🐍💓

one of my favorite things to do is give low maintenance cuts that you can just wash then air dry. (& a little easy product never hurt nobody but that’s up to you) ultimately if i can get it so that you can wake up, brush or squish your hair into place a little & walk out the door, that is a huge win for me.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
to get this perfectly roughed up texture on sam’s razor cut, after spritzing with sea salt i took big chunks of her hair & twisted them away from her face (that’s one of my main moves for my wavy clients) then i diffused dry. once fully dry i finger-combed everything in place & did a lot of squishing to get it thicccc. finally i pinched the bangs into pieces for even more texture 😎🤘🏼

at my first salon job/apprenticeship we were taught to do tons of layer cuts. layer layer layers! somewhere along the way, drew barrymore’s ombré became a thing, as did the kardashians’ middle parts, then beach waves, so long hair was the way to go. to keep the ends long enough for a nice, progressive ombré i kept layers long, longer, gone! 👋🏽⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
now, after jayne matthews personally delivered s**gs to the streets via jenny lewis, we’re back to layering. how i’ve missed them! i had forgotten how much you can compliment someone’s face shape & add tons of body all with a few well-placed snips, then finishing with some round brushing or hand styling. 😌⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
so anyway, that is my personal history lesson of hair trends within the last 10 years or so haha. now bring on the volume, shape & body!

now serving glossy s**g 🦁✨ilana has the thickest hair ever so this cut is 50% heavy layering & 50% heavy de-bulking. this takes out tons of weight BUT leaves tons of body 🤯 some folks are too nervous to let go of their hair but they want more volume. this is one of those occasions where, unless you want to spend a good amount of time & effort styling every day, you’ve gotta pick one or the other. would you try it? 😏✂️

happy day of thanks! so far in my couple of years here i’ve done 400+ heads of hair 😵 doesn’t that sound fake? lol 😅 but numbers don’t lie. i’m very thankful for each & every person attached to those heads, you all enrich my life more than you can know. have a great day & eat a whole lot & don’t feel bad about it.

a big part of my personal/professional philosophy is creating very soft & easy-going growout plans so that there is no hard line of demarcation.
🎨 glazes, such as this one on my client katherine, can add warmth & rich tones alongside your greys. depending on the coarseness/abundance of your grey hair, this could give more “coverage than you think! & demi-permanent formulas shift & fade a little over time so by the time it’s grown out a bit, the area between our old color & your natural outgrowth will be softly blurred.
🎨 rooty highlights & balayage are also a great way to help grey strands look more harmonious with the rest of your color. grey hair offers its own dimension, so adding even more dimension can really blend everything together while adding some warmth to flatter your skin tone.

opaque coverage can of course look great! but grey hair will always grow back in no matter how it’s covered, for life. 😬 therefore i love to help people work with their greys as opposed to against as a means of love & self acceptance. plus there are so many other things to budget your time & money for other than covering up a part of yourself - a part that society has taught us to hate - every single month.

you can still get ultra blonde, balayaged, natural or bold! we can still achieve virtually any color under the sun but my priority is always an easy maintenance growout as well as avoiding any kind of color that will give us tough banding in the future. this also means i will not be doing any grey coverage but will have grey ~blending~ options instead, which will hopefully help clients cultivate an accepting & loving relationship with natural grey hair.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
