✨ Let’s talk about AI & tattoo designs for a second.

I’ve never said that I don’t use AI. I do. I use it as a tool in my design process, just like I use Pinterest, Google, reference photos, editing programs, and the inspiration pictures my clients send me.

And the funny thing is, probably 98% of the time, I’m the one telling a client that the reference photo they sent me is AI-generated. 😂

What people don’t see is everything that happens behind the scenes.

A design doesn’t magically come out of AI and get slapped onto someone’s body.
That's just not how it works.
I don't just type s**t into ai and say make this a tattoo.
I spend a lot of time talking to my clients and explaining that somethings are impossible to put on you body this way let's edit it.

There are HOURS that can go into taking a concept, editing it, redrawing pieces, removing things, adding things, combining multiple references, changing proportions, figuring out placement, and making sure the design actually works with the shape and movement of a human body. On top of getting rid of all that extra frilly crap that ai puts into it.

Countless hours at night editing and redrawing and fixing. -ask my husband he's annoyed I'm always on my ipad

Nine times out of ten, we’re only using part of what AI generated as a general concept or starting point. The finished tattoo still requires my eye, my decisions, my experience, my hands, and my ability to actually tattoo that design onto a person. You know making sure an octopus doesn't have 10 tentacles, or 8 fingers on one hand. Retouching and redoing.

Clients send tattoo artists inspiration from Pinterest, chat gpt, Facebook,and Google every single day. Those images came from somewhere too. References and inspiration have always been part of creating art — the tools we have available to us are simply changing. The world around us is changing.

Rather than argue about AI or feel like I need to hide the fact that I use it, I’d rather just be completely upfront and honest about it. I have never claimed that I do not use ai. In fact I've had multiple conversations with multiple different clients about this exact thing.

Moving forward, if you are a client of mine and you DO NOT want AI used at any point in the creation or assistance of your tattoo design, just tell me. ❤️ I am absolutely happy to respect that, and we can figure out something beautiful together.

I will continue using the tools available to me to help bring the weird, beautiful, sentimental, witchy, chaotic ideas living in your heads to life — while still putting the time, work, creativity, and care into making them something that works beautifully as a tattoo. 🖤✨
