❄️ Is your AC line covered in ice?
A lot of homeowners see ice on the copper line and think:
👉 "Maybe I just need new insulation."
Unfortunately, that's usually NOT the problem.
If your AC is freezing up, the most common causes are:
🌪️ Poor airflow
❌ Dirty air filter
❌ Dirty evaporator coil
❌ Blower motor issues
💨 Refrigerant problems
❌ Low refrigerant charge
❌ Refrigerant leak
❌ Refrigerant restriction
Here's the important part:
⚠️ Ice on the outdoor line usually means the indoor coil is frozen too.
When that happens:
❌ Cooling performance drops
❌ Energy bills increase
❌ Compressor damage becomes possible
What should you do?
✅ Turn cooling OFF
✅ Run FAN ONLY mode
✅ Let the system thaw completely
Then have the system properly diagnosed.
Adding refrigerant without finding the cause is not a repair.
Adding insulation alone is not a repair.
The goal is to find the ROOT problem.

❄️ AC running… but house still not cooling properly?
Before you panic or assume the system is dead, start with a few basic checks 👇
✅ 1. Check the air filter
A clogged filter can restrict airflow and reduce cooling performance.
✅ 2. Make sure the OUTDOOR unit is running
Fan spinning? Any strange buzzing or humming sounds?
✅ 3. Check your thermostat settings
Cool mode ✔️
Fan set to AUTO ✔️
✅ 4. Look for ice buildup
Ice on copper lines or indoor coil usually means airflow or refrigerant issues.
✅ 5. Check the drain line / float switch
A clogged drain can partially shut the system down.
⚠️ If the system is:
❌ Blowing warm air
❌ Running constantly
❌ Cooling very slowly
❌ Short cycling on/off
…then it may be:
🔧 Bad capacitor
💨 Low refrigerant
⚡ Electrical issue
🧊 Airflow restriction
Important:
Don’t keep lowering the thermostat hoping it’ll “catch up.”
That usually doesn’t fix the real problem.

⚠️ “Shorted compressor” — can it be repaired?
This is one of the toughest HVAC conversations homeowners face.
Here’s the honest answer 👇
❌ A compressor short itself is NOT repairable.
The compressor can only be replaced.
But whether that makes sense depends on:
📅 System age
❄️ Refrigerant type
💸 Overall system condition
For older systems — especially:
⚠️ 15–30 years old
⚠️ R-22 refrigerant systems
…a compressor replacement often becomes a very expensive temporary fix.
Why?
🔧 Compressor replacement is major labor
💨 Refrigerant cost can be very high
⚡ Other components may fail soon after
Sometimes repair IS possible.
But sometimes replacement is the smarter long-term investment.
⚠️ Important:
Not every company explains all options clearly.
A good HVAC company should help you understand:
✔️ Repair cost vs replacement value
✔️ Remaining life expectancy
✔️ Energy efficiency differences
✔️ Financing/rebate options if available
Bottom line:
A compressor short is serious — but the right decision depends on the entire system, not just one part.

⚡ AC keeps blowing the 3A fuse?
This is a classic low-voltage short — and it’s not a simple fix.
We’ve seen homeowners replace the fuse…
👉 It blows again instantly
👉 Replace again… same result
That’s your system telling you:
❌ There’s a short somewhere in the circuit
Common causes:
🔌 Low-voltage wire rubbed through (very common)
🐭 Chewed wiring inside the condenser
⚡ Shorted contactor coil
🧠 Faulty control/defrost board
Here’s the tricky part:
The system might look fine until it calls for cooling —
Then the fuse blows immediately.
That means:
➡️ The short only appears under load
➡️ You need proper testing to isolate it
⚠️ What NOT to do:
❌ Keep replacing fuses
❌ Guess and swap parts
❌ Bypass safety circuits
That’s how small electrical issues turn into major damage.
✔️ Proper diagnosis = tracing the short step-by-stepThen
✔️ Identifying the exact component or wire
✔️ Fixing the root cause — not the symptomstep-by-step

🔧 Full HVAC system replacement completed yesterday ✅
Another home upgraded with a complete, properly installed system:
✔️ Cooper&Hunter heat pump system
✔️ RunTru furnace (by Trane)
✔️ New evaporator coil
✔️ Custom supply & return plenums
✔️ New drain pan & condensate setup
✔️ Full system reconfiguration for proper airflow
This wasn’t just a “swap” — it was a full install done the right way.
Why it matters:
⚡ Proper airflow = better efficiency
🌡️ Correct setup = longer system life
💧 Drain system done right = no future water damage
Most issues we see come from poor installation — not the equipment itself.
We focus on:
✔️ Clean workmanship
✔️ Proper materials
✔️ System performance — not shortcuts

🌡️ Thinking about replacing your thermostat?
Here’s the truth for most homes in North Texas 👇
Not every house needs a “smart” thermostat.
We see a lot of homeowners with:
🏠 Standard AC + gas furnace or heat pump
📱 No need for apps, schedules, or automation
👉 But still getting pushed into expensive smart stats.
What actually matters:
✔️ Proper wiring (especially a C-wire)
✔️ Compatibility with your system
✔️ Reliable temperature control
If you just want simple:
🔧 Basic non-programmable thermostat = solid choice
🔧 Easy to use, fewer issues, no app headaches
If you want more control:
📱 Smart thermostats (Nest, Ecobee, Honeywell) can be great — IF installed correctly
⚠️ Common mistakes we fix:
❌ No C-wire → thermostat glitches or dies
❌ Wrong thermostat for the system
❌ DIY install → blown fuse or no cooling
Bottom line:
More features ≠ better performance.
The right thermostat is the one that matches your system.

💸 $245 for “anti-corrosion coating” on your AC coil?
Let’s be real for a second 👇
We’ve seen jobs where:
❌ A quick spray from a can
❌ Partial coverage (missed areas everywhere)
❌ 10–15 minutes of work
…and it’s sold as “protection.”
⚠️ Here’s the truth:
A proper corrosion-resistant coil is:
✔️ Factory coated (dip or full flood coating)
✔️ Fully covered on ALL surfaces
✔️ Designed before installation
👉 Not sprayed unevenly on-site.
If the coating isn’t complete, it won’t protect anything.
In many cases, this type of spray:
❌ Doesn’t stop corrosion
❌ Doesn’t reach critical areas inside the coil
❌ Can even reduce heat transfer if overapplied
So what actually helps?
✔️ Proper humidity control
✔️ Good filtration (correct MERV rating)
✔️ Regular maintenance
✔️ Addressing VOCs inside the home
⚠️ Especially in humid climates — corrosion is managed, not “sprayed away.”
Bottom line:
If it looks like a quick spray job… it probably is.
