Uganda is the largest producer of granular brown sugar in the East African Community, accounting for about 500,000 metric tonnes annually as of May 2017. By 2021, national annual sugar output had increased to about 600,000 metric tonnes of brown sugar and 60,000 metric tonnes of industrial sugar. In October 2022, it was projected that the country would produce 822,000 metric tonnes in calendar year 2022. Of that, about 720,000 metric tonnes would be brown table sugar and about 102,000 metric tonnes would be white industrial sugar.
Uganda mainly exports its sugar to other East African Countries.
Investment opportunities availabe in this sector include producing sugar for export to international markets and setting up sugar factories.

Oil & Gas sector in Uganda:

The oil and gas sector has significant potential to contribute to inclusive growth in the country as it expected to bring in investments between US$15 to US$20 billion in the next three to five years. With the discovery of 6.5 billion barrels of oil, 1.2 billion barrels of it recoverable, it is anticipated to spur two major investments:
*An oil refinery that will process 60,000 barrels per day.
*The 1,445km oil pipeline from Hoima in Uganda to Tanga port in Tanzania.

Opportunities exist in community development, upgrading transport infrastructure and the development of a petroleum-based industrial park in Kabale Hoima. Ugandaโ€™s policy on local content will unlock many opportunities for investors and Ugandans.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, covering 32,092 ha, is one of the largest areas in East Africa which still has Afromontane lowland forest extending to well within the montane forest belt. Located on the eastern edge of the Albertine Rift Valley and believed to be a Pleistocene refugium, the property is a biodiversity hotspot with possibly the greatest number of tree species for its altitude in East Africa. It is also host to a rich fauna including a number of endemic butterflies and one of the richest mammalian assemblages in Africa. Home to almost half of the worldโ€™s mountain gorilla population, the property represents a conservation frontline as an isolated forest of outstanding biological richness surrounded by an agricultural landscape.
Investment opportunities available in the Ugandan tourism sector include setting up accomodation facilities for example hotels, lodges near the park.

Uganda provides an unrivalled and largely untapped opportunity for electronics assembly operations. Uganda combines first-rate labour availability, the most competitive labour and overall operating costs in the EAC, an attractive and stable investment and working environment, an attractive incentives package and major market access.

Examples of success stories include Chinese firm, Hisense, which assembled its first TV in Uganda in 2012 and is building a new 2,000 employee plant in Uganda, to assemble TVs, DVD players, radios, speakers, LEDs, home theatres, and home appliances.

Sisiyi Falls:

One of the most fascinating spots to visit in Eastern Uganda is the Sisiyi Falls. The exact location is in the Bulambuli area of eastern Ugandaโ€™s Buyaga sub-county.

The stunning falls make for the ideal pit stop on a safari to Mount Elgon National Park because they are close to the towns of Moroto, Sironko, Bulambuli, and Kapchorwa.

Visitors will be greeted by the thundering sound of the waterfalls and a white streak against a lush mountainous background.

Health care industry is a best prospect industry sector for this Uganda.

Opportunities include:

Equipment: With Ugandaโ€™s lack of medical infrastructure and a large influx of donor support for health programs, demand for medical equipment continues to rise. Equipment in demand includes: record management equipment and systems, ultrasound, electrocardiographs, obstetric dopplers, pulse oximeters, ventilators, cardiac echo machines, treadmill stress machines, and lab equipment (including equipment needed for microbiology, hematology, chemistry, and histopathology).

Generic pharmaceutical manufacturing: Uganda still imports approximately 80% of its essential medicines and health supplies. Based on Ugandaโ€™s strong demand for medical services and the governmentโ€™s favorable tax policies for manufacturing facilities, manufacturing generic pharmaceuticals remains a profitable opportunity for investors.
