Since many of these children were already approaching their early teens, they had no chance whatsoever of enrolling in a regular school program.

History

It all started in 1992, when T Thomas challenged Oti about what the Providence community was doing for the Rroma children on the streets in the Ferentari district of Bucharest. What began as a Sunday morning program was extended to a day center and it soon evolved into a literacy class when it was realized that most of the children could neither read or write and had never been to school

A week to remember!

The Hillspring Church from Sand Springs, Oklahoma left a lasting mark on the hearts of so many of our students. Many of them experienced genuine love through the warm embrace of the volunteers just what their lives needed most: intentional, unconditional care.

In the classroom, we shared stories about Jonah, David, Noah, and others. We created crafts, coloured, and made bracelets, activities reminding the students of how important it is to always trust God and hold on to His peace.
Afterschool sessions, once homework was done, the fun truly began! The girls enjoyed stylish manicures, while the boys played games, raced cars, and even created colorful erupting volcanoes.

To make the week even more special, the team took a group of students to the Museum of Senses and treated them to a ‘healthy’ lunch at McDonald’s. 😜

On the way back, one student softly whispered, “Why can’t she be my mom? She is so kind to me,” pointing to one of the volunteers. A moment that speaks volumes.
Hillspring Church, we are praying God’s blessings over you.

Not to mention the excellent work you graciously did around our property. The PE teacher is especially grateful for the storage cabinet.

Thank you for your love, your kindness, and the difference you’ve made.

Ruth School on a Mission for a Clean Environment

In partnership with United Way Romania and Asociația Viitor Plus, Ruth School organized the project “Mission for a Clean Environment”, an initiative dedicated to raising awareness about keeping our environment clean and protecting nature.

The activities included:
• A special seminar for teachers
• Two interactive workshops for students, integrated into Green Week
• A nature trip

The students’ favorite activity? The visit to the Văcărești Nature Park! There, in the heart of Bucharest’s urban wilderness, United Way Romania volunteers guided the children through a lively and hands-on session about the importance of water for the environment.

The students explored, asked questions, discovered new things, and grew even more connected to nature.

We thank the volunteers, teachers, and partners for their passion and dedication in making this project possible. Together, we hope to have inspired a more conscious and environmentally responsible generation.

Thank you FBC Aiken for the best Green Week at Ruth School

Green Week was a treat at Ruth School thanks to FBC Aiken!

From learning about the solar system, soil, and plant life to building terrariums and exploring recycling and life cycles, the week was filled with hands-on discovery, fun experiments, and creative play. The students worked hard and made their own solar systems!

We ended the week with a wonderful chapel service, reminding us that the beauty of our universe and planet is a gift from God, and that we are called to care for it with love and responsibility.

Thank you, FBC Aiken, for sharing your time, knowledge, and hearts, not only with our students, but also with their parents, our teachers, and a group of expecting young mothers who were encouraged and equipped to care for their newborns.

The teachers, students, and leadership of Project RUTH extend our deepest gratitude for all you have so generously given.
God bless you all.

By the end of 1992, what we now know as Project Ruth was simply a faithful “yes.” A group of young people from Providence Church were given a challenge: find a name that could carry the heart of Providence Church’s mission in Ferentari: offering an open door, a meal, and education to the Roma community, often marginalized and considered unqualified.

They found it in Ruth, a stranger who was accepted and loved by an unlikely community. A story of being welcomed, restored, and redeemed.

That became the foundation. And through Providence Foundation, that vision took shape into what we now call Project Ruth.

In March 2026, volunteers from BGAV-JMU brought that same story to life, painting it into a mural at Ruth School. Not just as art, but as a reminder: this has always been about all people being accepted, welcomed, and loved, especially within the Roma community in Ferentari.

From a name inspired by Scripture… to a life lived out in community.

More than 30 years later, the story continues and we invite you to join hands with us.

For the second year in a row, the BGAV-JMU team gave the students at Ruth School a truly wonderful experience.

From classroom activities, afterschool, and sports to assembling and setting up new classroom furniture, painting a mural, and visiting Bucharest and Constanța, they made every moment count.

It was a blessing to have you with us. Thank you, and we hope to welcome you again soon!

Spring is in the air at Ruth School, and our students welcomed the new season with joy and enthusiasm!

Our fourth-grade students set a beautiful example for our small community by organizing a special Literature Workshop dedicated to the beloved folklore writer Ion Creangă. Through songs, poems, riddles, and traditional dances, they brought his stories to life in a truly memorable way.

The hall was filled with warmth and tradition, decorated with a charming folklore theme, everyone wore traditional attire, and their teacher prepared delicious homemade donuts to share.

It was a joyful and heartfelt celebration, full of smiles, emotion, and excitement. We are so proud of our students for their creativity, participation, and wonderful spirit!
Project Ruth wishes everyone a happy spring!

The Russian war in Ukraine began four years ago on February 24, 2022. Since the very first day, Project Ruth has been actively involved in supporting our Ukrainian neighbors, and this support continues today.

Four years of war, four years of unwavering support captured in four key pictures:

🏠 Hosting Ukrainian refugees in our facilities, providing shelter, meals, laundry, and a safe transitional hub for those fleeing the conflict.
🥫 Sending food aid through the 4:7 Care Box program to deliver essential supplies directly to those in need.
🏕️ Organising a camp for Ukrainian orphans in Romania, offering them a place of hope, rest, and care amid tragedy.
💛💙 Funding the two Hope Corners for first-aid trauma intervention in Ukraine, helping to provide emotional support.

We are deeply grateful for all the partners who have supported these ministries through donations, prayers, and/or by coming to volunteer with Project Ruth in these initiatives.

We continue to pray that the war will end soon and that Ukraine will be granted a just and lasting peace.

We stand with Ukraine! 🇺🇦
