I don’t know how it happens, but something in my life always leads me back to a kitchen. It started when I was a child, in my grandfather’s kitchen at the Furnica hotel-restaurant. His name was Ion Radu, and he cooked both for the King and for Ceaușescu during their visits to Sinaia. He had been a student of “Pepi” Iosif Strassman, who himself had trained under Escoffier. My grandfather was a specialist in French cold cuisine. Today, I do a lot of food photography – and here I’ve found myself in the kitchen of the Azay-le-Rideau Palace. My grandfather would have loved it.
