AKRSP, under its Climate Initiative (CLI), supported a local farmer from Gamba, Skardu, through a solar-powered lift and drip irrigation scheme, turning a barren land into a productive green space. Through renewable energy and efficient water management, Shabbir Hussain has successfully planted around 10,000 trees, restoring degraded land and strengthening climate resilience.
AKRSP aims to plant more than one million trees this year across Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral. Since inception, over 51 million trees have been facilitated across the region, contributing to environmental sustainability, carbon sequestration, and community-based climate action.

The Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) supported the local community in rehabilitating a flood-damaged irrigation channel in Sadiqabad village, Goner Farm, Diamer. The restoration of the channel will benefit 300 households and ensure the irrigation of 3,000 kanals of agricultural land.
The intervention has not only restored access to water for farming but has also revived livelihoods and strengthened community resilience following the devastating floods.

AKRSP, under GAC-supported BEST4WEER project, conducted the START – اپنا کاروبار programme for aspiring young entrepreneurs from Nagar, Ghizer, Astore and Gilgit to promote youth entrepreneurship and self-employment.
The training was attended by 26 participants, including 14 girls and 12 boys, who developed, refined and presented their business ideas.
Through interactive sessions and presentations, the young entrepreneurs strengthened their confidence and practical skills to initiate and grow their ventures.
START – اپنا کاروبار aims to nurture an entrepreneurial mindset among young people in Gilgit-Baltistan through customised training, seed grants and advisory support under an extended outreach model.

The Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) trained 40 women Councillors from Lower and Upper Chitral to strengthen their leadership skills and enhance their decision-making capacities.
The training focused on improving participants’ understanding of their roles and responsibilities as elected representatives, enabling them to contribute more effectively to local governance processes.
Organised under the GAC-funded BEST4WEER project, the initiative aims to empower women councillors to serve as change agents within their communities, promoting inclusive development and creating a conducive environment for greater participation of women and girls in public life.
