I can't be President Tinubu’s campaign DG because I'm not a member of the APC. People don't understand. It's not that one is not qualified. Who's more qualified than me? Even if Mr. President calls me, I'll say no and tell him why.
In 2015, the Minister of Transport was the governor of Rivers State. He was the DG of Muhammadu Buhari. Before you knew, I pulled the carpet off his feet. He lost. He didn’t get 25 percent. In 2019, he was Minister of Transport; he became the DG, and he lost his state too.
Bukola Saraki was the DG of Atiku campaign in 2019. He was running around doing ‘Atikulated’, I called him, ‘Why are you doing Atikulated? Go home!’ He lost his state! Lost his own seat, too!
In 2023, Aminu Tambuwal became DG of Atiku. He lost his state! In the same 2023, Lalong was the DG of APC, the present president. He lost his state!
I don’t want to lose my state! I will be in my state. I have two states: FCT and Rivers. What is important is that you are able to deliver those two states. So it is not about being DG. If you are DG and you don’t win your state, what is the essence of the DG?”

Yari Accepts Appointment as APC Presidential Campaign Council DG
Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar has accepted his appointment as Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 elections.
In a statement released on Saturday in Abuja, the Zamfara West senator expressed deep gratitude and seriousness over the responsibility.
“I accept this responsibility with deep gratitude and full seriousness. My sincere thanks go to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party for the trust placed in me, and to our party leadership for the confidence. I do not take it lightly,” Yari said.
He described a campaign as more than an election, calling it “a conversation with the Nigerian people in every state, every language, every faith about the future we are building together.”
Yari pledged that the campaign would be conducted with discipline, unity and respect for all.
He said the work begins immediately and there is a place for everyone. To Nigerians of every political leaning, he urged a choice of progress over division, adding that the party would earn public confidence through its record rather than noise.
“By the grace of God, and with the effort of us all, we will deliver victory in January 2027,” he concluded.

Peter Obi’s Southeast Support May Not Match 2023 Level in 2027 — Afegbua
Kassim Afegbua, the Edo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, has predicted that Peter Obi may find it difficult to replicate the level of support he enjoyed across the Southeast during the 2023 presidential election when Nigerians return to the polls in 2027.
Speaking during an interview with Arise News, Afegbua attributed his assessment largely to the changing political landscape in the Southeast, particularly the current alignment of the region’s governors.
According to him, Obi’s political strength remains largely concentrated in the Southeast, but the political circumstances that contributed to his strong performance in the region in 2023 have changed significantly.
“Peter Obi’s strength is in the Southeast, but he’s not going to get the same strength in 2027 like what he did, what he got in 2023, because some of the governors are now with us. In fact, all the governors.”
Afegbua’s comments reflect the position of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) that recent political realignments could significantly alter the dynamics of the 2027 presidential contest.
Obi, who emerged as a major force in the Southeast during the 2023 election, secured overwhelming support in several states across the region. However, with political alliances shifting ahead of 2027, Afegbua believes the former Anambra State governor may face a more challenging environment in his bid to sustain the same level of electoral dominance.
His remarks come amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition parties and political actors strategising to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC.
As the political season gradually intensifies, the Southeast is expected to remain a crucial battleground, with the strength of existing alliances, grassroots structures and voter sentiment likely to play a major role in determining the outcome of the presidential contest.
