The Department of Mathematics at University of Colombo embraced the spirit of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year with a celebration held at the Seminar Room on the 21st of April 2026 ☀️.

The event brought together members of the department in a warm and engaging setting to observe traditional New Year customs, take part in festive activities, and share seasonal refreshments. It provided a meaningful opportunity to reflect on cultural traditions while strengthening collegial bonds within the department ❤️.

The session introduced students to the academic programs, opportunities, and support offered by the department, providing a clear picture of what lies ahead.

Immediate past students shared their experiences, giving a relatable glimpse into university life, and the program concluded with a fun interactive activity that brought everyone together, setting the tone for an exciting journey ahead.

The Department of Mathematics warmly welcomed the 2025/26 Industrial Statistics and Mathematical Finance intake at the Orientation Program held on 4th March 2026 at the DST Mini Auditorium. The session introduced students to their academic journey ahead, with valuable insights into program structures and opportunities.

Current students also shared their experiences, giving a relatable glimpse into university life, and the program concluded with a fun interactive activity that brought everyone together, setting the tone for an exciting journey ahead.

As part of the Orientation Open Day for the 2026 batch on 3rd March, the Honors students of the Department of Mathematics organized several interactive games to engage with the new students. In parallel, an exhibition titled "The Swaying Equations: An Exhibition of Mathematical and Algorithmic Art" was held at the department.

The Department of Mathematics successfully held its Annual Planning Workshop – 2026 at the Ramadia Ranmal Holiday Resort.

The workshop brought together the academic staff of the department to reflect on the past year, discuss future academic and research directions, and collaboratively plan activities and initiatives for the upcoming years. It provided a valuable opportunity for meaningful discussions, strategic planning, and strengthening the department’s collective vision for the future.
