📚 A First for Durham Region 📚
The Whitby Public Library is proud to be the first library in Durham Region to offer free memberships to Indigenous people living on any Ontario First Nations Reserve who self-identify as Indigenous.

By expanding access to library collections, resources, and services, we're helping connect more people with Indigenous voices, stories, and knowledge. The results are in! ✅
Last month, we asked the community to help choose a design for our new pollinator garden and we were thrilled by the response. Hundreds of votes were cast online and in person with the results being so close that we couldn't choose just one winner!

Designs 2 and 3 finished nearly neck and neck, so we're combining elements from both to create a garden inspired directly by your feedback. This new space will help support pollinators, strengthen local biodiversity, and create opportunities for nature-focused learning and Library programs. 🌱

Planting begins this fall. Stay tuned as this community-created garden starts to bloom! 🌼

🌱 The Pollinator Garden Project is starting to sprout 🌱
Volunteers from Central Lake Ontario Conservation CLOCA, Durham Master Gardeners, local teens, and Library staff came together to prepare the site for our brand-new pollinator garden! From laying cardboard to spreading mulch, it was incredible to watch this future green space start to take shape.

This new garden—made possible through funding from TD Friends of the Environment—will help support pollinators, strengthen local biodiversity, and create new opportunities for nature-focused Library programs. And this is only the beginning… planting comes later this fall!

Thank you to everyone who is helping bring this special community space to life. And stay tuned! The winning garden design (voted on by you!) will be announced June 1. 🐝

Take a Bookmark. Leave a Smile! Members of the Ormiston PS writing club dropped by the Rossland Branch with a special delivery. Students in grades 4-7 crafted handmade bookmarks for members of the community. The thought behind the project? "A little act of kindness to brighten someone's reading time." Thank you for sharing your thoughtfulness with us and dozens of Rossland patrons. Get them while they last. 💙
