Looking for a more flexible way to get around Powell River, Squamish, and Kelowna?

OnDemand is a flexible transit service that lets you book a ride when you're ready to travel. Use the BC Transit OnDemand app or call our booking line, and you'll be matched with a ride to help get you where you need to go.

Getting started is easy:
1. Download the BC Transit OnDemand app (or call to book)
2. Enter your pick-up and drop-off locations
3. Receive your pick-up time
4. Head to your pick-up location a few minutes early
5. Hop on and pay your regular transit fare

OnDemand is currently available in Powell River, Kelowna and Squamish transit systems only. We are looking at implementing this in more systems in the future.

As temperatures rise and wildfire smoke affects many communities across BC, we encourage riders to plan ahead and take care of themselves while travelling.

Here are a few ways to prepare:
• Stay hydrated and carry a water bottle.
• Check local cooling centres or indoor airconditioned spaces if you need relief from the heat or smoke.
• Give yourself extra time for your trip.
• If you have a medical condition that makes heat or smoke more dangerous, consider delaying non-essential travel when advisories are in effect.

For the latest wildfire, smoke, and heat advisories, follow and your local public health authority.
Take care of yourself, check in on those who may need support and travel safely.

Holiday schedule reminder for Canada Day 🍁

Getting around on Wednesday, July 1? Things may look a bit different depending on where you are. Some transit systems will be on holiday schedules, with event detours and even free rides or shuttles.

It’s a good idea to plan ahead before you head out.

Electric buses are coming to Kelowna!

BC Transit's heavy-duty battery electric buses began arriving in Kelowna this spring, with the first entering service in the coming weeks. Kelowna will receive 22 electric buses in total, delivered over the next few months.

Each electric bus saves about one tanker truck of diesel fuel per year. That's quieter rides, cleaner air and a more sustainable transit system for the community.

125 heavy-duty electric buses will be delivered to eight BC Transit communities by the end of 2027. Kamloops, Kelowna, Nanaimo, Nelson, Powell River, Sunshine Coast, Victoria and Whistler are all part of the plan, with new electric buses and charging infrastructure coming to each.

Funded through the Zero Emissions Transit Fund and the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, with support from the Government of Canada, the Province of British Columbia, and local government partners.

Confidence grows with experience! 🚌

BC Transit was proud to join the Cowichan Valley Regional District School District Vision Team’s Traffic Safety for Students with Low Vision event, helping students and families build confidence using public transit.

Students explored traffic safety, toured a bus, and learned transit skills alongside Tricia Pokorny from the CNIB Foundation and her guide dog, Jiggs.
