Are starter homes a thing of the past? 07/23/2026

The starter home isn't dead — it just looks a lot different than it used to 🏡

A new build that cost $120,000 in 1997 is selling for $600,000 today 😳 and that shift has completely changed what getting into the market looks like for first-time buyers. The good news? Condos, townhouses, co-ownership, and markets outside the major city centres are all opening doors that didn't exist a generation ago.

Linked below is a great read for anyone thinking about their first purchase. When you're ready to talk through what's actually within reach for you, let's chat! 📞

Are starter homes a thing of the past? It used to be that almost everyone’s first home was considered a “starter home.” But between a lack of housing supply and economic challenges, is the concept even a thing in Canada anymore?
