The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo & Stratford Perth has been serving the community since 1927. The humane society is self-funded and self-governed.

In 2012, the Kitchener Waterloo Humane Society and the Stratford SPCA combined under one organization and board of directors to create KWSPHS. The Kitchener Waterloo Humane Society and Stratford Perth Humane Society have long standing histories of serving people and pets in their communities. In 2012, the two organizations joined to become one of Ontario's largest animal welfare charities. Today, they are known as The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo and Stratford Perth, which operate animal centres in Kitchener and Stratford. Together, they service the areas of Kitchener, Waterloo, Wilmot, Woolwich, Wellesley, Stratford and Perth County. The humane society also helps animals outside of these areas, as time and resources allow. Outside of contracts for animal services, they receive no government funding. Instead, they rely on the generosity of donors to help animals within their communities and to provide animal welfare focused education and outreach. MISSION

It is with great sadness that we share the news that Jenny Maciel passed away early in the morning on Friday, September 25.

There are some people who become more than colleagues over the years. They become part of the fabric of an organization. Jenny was one of those people.

Jenny’s connection to KWHS began back in 2005, and over the years she found so many ways to share her love for animals and her knowledge with those around her. Whether she was caring for an animal, helping a family, training a dog, supporting a colleague, or simply sharing her experience, Jenny had a way of making a difference.

Her love for dogs was at the heart of so much of what she did. She dedicated countless hours to helping animals and the people who loved them, and she left an impression on far more lives than she probably ever realized. The outpouring of love and support Jenny and her family received over the last few days is proof of just how many lives she touched.

Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones, and with everyone who had the opportunity to know Jenny, work alongside her, learn from her, and call her a friend.

Jenny gave so much to the animals, to our organization, and to the people around her. Her impact will remain with us, and she will be deeply missed. ❀️

Meet Kay! 🐾
Looking for a cat who comes with built-in commentary? This chatty, affectionate boy loves following his people around, asking for pets with adorable shoulder taps, and sharing his thoughts on absolutely everything. At 11 years young, he still loves to play with toys and socialize with everyone he meets.

If your home could use more purrs, more personality, and a lot more meows, Kay is ready to bring his senior-cat-charm to your family.

Just a friendly reminder, if an animal is no longer listed on our website, they have either been adopted or have a meet & greet booked.

A huge thank you to CLVR DIY for their incredible support of the animals in our care! πŸ’›πŸΎ

Through the sale of their handmade creations like bag charms and crocheted toys, this talented group raised funds to help animals in need. We're so grateful for the time, creativity, and hard work that went into every item.

Ontario Recognizes Exceptional Volunteers!

The Ontario government is honouring nearly 5,000 exceptional individuals through the 2026 Ontario Volunteer Service Awards. These annual awards celebrate adult and youth volunteers for their outstanding contributions and ongoing service to organizations such as non-profits, schools, community centres, hospitals, museums, libraries and community associations.

Nominated individuals were honoured at one of 30 local award ceremonies taking place across Ontario this year. The awards acknowledge adult volunteers for their continuous service in five-year increments, and youth volunteers for their continuous service of two or more years. Recipients receive personalized certificates and distinctive lapel pins in recognition of their service.

On September 16th, volunteers from The Humane Society of KWSP gathered at Bingemans Centre, to receive their Ontario Volunteer Service Awards. We are honoured that these individuals have chosen to give of their time to the Humane Society, thank you!

Happy Tails: Hopper 🐾

When Hopper arrived at the shelter as a stray last December, he was facing some big challenges, including a leg injury that ultimately required amputation. After recovering in foster care, this resilient boy found exactly what he deserved: a forever family and a home full of feline friends. ❀️

As a tripod kitty, Hopper doesn't let anything slow him down! His family says he loves keeping up with his two big brothers and big sister, following them everywhere and trying to boss them around. His silly personality shines through during his favourite pastime: midnight zoomies πŸŒ™ once he's tired out, you'll find him curled up in his cat tree bowl, snoring away in the funniest positions.

We're so happy Hopper found a family that loves him just as he is and a home where he can thrive! πŸ’™πŸ±

Meet Wall.E! 🐾

At just 7 months old, this big, brainy boy is a sweet goofball who is entering his self-improvement era. Wall.E is smart, energetic, and eager to learn, but he's still learning his manners. He's looking for a forever family who can support him through ongoing training and consistency.

He'd thrive with adopters who have experience with large-breed dogs and can channel his enthusiasm into fun activities, learning opportunities, and plenty of exercise. He has so much potential and would love to find a family who will embrace his enthusiasm!

If you're ready to help a clever young pup grow into an amazing companion, Wall.E is ready to get to work! πŸ’™
