Africa Day is an opportunity to celebrate the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of people across the African continent and African diaspora communities here in Canada.

As Canada continues to strengthen partnerships with African nations through trade, investment, diplomacy, and people-to-people connections, we remain committed to building a future rooted in cooperation, opportunity, and shared prosperity.

Today, we also recognize and celebrate the many contributions African Canadians make to our communities and to the social, cultural, and economic fabric of our country.

This tax season, our office helped over 450 constituents file their taxes—ensuring they continue to receive the benefits and supports they rely on.

This effort would not have been possible without our incredible volunteers. Thank you to Eileen, Manuel, Lizeth, Rabia, Bol, Tracy, and Mayada for your dedication and hard work. Your efforts have made a real difference in the lives of so many Hamiltonians.

We remain committed to supporting our community and ensuring residents can access the services and resources they need.

Today, I toured the Oaks project and saw firsthand the progress being made on this historic site.

Once home to the former Royal Oak Dairy, this space has been transformed into a supportive housing community with over 100 affordable units, helping individuals facing housing insecurity access stable, dignified living conditions.

Through partnerships with organizations like Hamilton is Home and investments supported by the federal government, projects like this are leading the way in addressing homelessness and creating long-term, stable housing for those who need it most.

Our government is providing $35,000,000 in funding for the Oakwood Project by YWCA.

This project will have 84 units with 60 units for single women and 24 units for women led households. Along with other amenities and supports to help ensure that women who are fleeing violence and abuse get the support they deserve.

We remain committed to ensuring that we are providing the supports that our communities need to help them live with dignity and respect.

Our government is investing $35 million to support YWCA Hamilton in building 84 new transitional housing units on Barton Street East. This project will provide safe, supportive housing for women and families during some of the most challenging times in their lives.

The development will include 60 units for single women and 24 units for women-led households, along with on-site supports, shared spaces, and community amenities to help residents rebuild with dignity and stability.

For women and mothers fleeing violence and abuse, safe housing is more than just shelter, it’s safety, support, and a fresh start.

I’m proud to support this important initiative and grateful to YWCA Hamilton for the vital work they do every day in our community.

Canada is building for the future.

Our government is launching a new National Electricity Strategy — a plan to double Canada’s electricity grid capacity by 2050 and deliver clean, reliable, and affordable power for generations to come.

The strategy focuses on:
⚡ Building new clean energy infrastructure
🔌 Connecting power grids across Canada
👷 Training and supporting skilled workers
🏭 Producing more energy technology here at home

This plan will help lower energy costs, strengthen our economy, and create more than 130,000 jobs across the country.

Wishing everyone in Hamilton Centre and across Canada a safe and happy Victoria Day!

As we enjoy the long weekend with family and friends, it’s a great time to celebrate the start of summer and reflect on the traditions that bring us together as a country.

Stay safe and enjoy the day!

Today marks 17 years since the end of the armed conflict in Sri Lanka.

On Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day, we honour the lives lost, remember the families affected, and stand with Tamil Canadians as they seek truth, justice, and accountability.

We reaffirm our commitment to human rights, dignity, and ensuring these tragedies are never forgotten.

We had a wonderful evening at our first “Dinner and Dialogue with Aslam Rana” fundraiser.

It was great to bring together fellow Liberals and supporters under one roof to celebrate our recent election and reflect on the progress made over the past year.

Thank you to everyone who contributed their time, energy, and support, this event would not have been possible without you.
