Copies of the book are available at the front desk, on TRACpac.ab.ca, and Libby.
Our first meeting is Friday, October 9th at 11:30am (non-school day).
Pizza and refreshments will be provided, so registration is required (see the link in the comments).
We will be discussing the book Fish In A Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt. It is about Ally, who is smart enough to fool a lot of smart people. Every time she lands in a new school, she hides her inability to read by creating clever yet disruptive distractions. She is afraid to ask for help; after all, how can you cure dumb? However, her newest teacher sees the bright, creative kid underneath the troublemaker. With his help, Ally learns not to be so hard on herself and that dyslexia is nothing to be ashamed of. As her confidence grows, Ally feels free to be herself, and the world starts opening up with possibilities. She discovers that there's a lot more to her- and to everyone- than a label, and that great minds don't always think alike.

Readers' Rendezvous Book Club
You asked, and we listened!
Join us on either day to discuss The River is Waiting by Wally Lamb.
When: Monday, Sep 21 at 6:30pm OR Tuesday, Sep 22 at 12:00pm
Where: Library Reading Room
What: A fun, casual, and relaxed book club where we may get off topic but usually find our way back to the book.
Who: Everyone is welcome (suggested for adults).
About the book: Corby Ledbetter is struggling. New fatherhood, the loss of his job, and a growing secret addiction have thrown his marriage to his beloved Emily into a tailspin. And that's before he causes the tragedy that tears the family apart. Sentenced to prison, Corby struggles to survive life on the inside, where he bears witness to frightful acts of brutality but also experiences small acts of kindness and elemental kinship with a prison librarian who sees his light and some of his fellow offenders, including a tender-hearted cellmate and a troubled teen desperate for a role model. Buoyed by them and by his mother's enduring faith in him, Corby begins to transcend the boundaries of his confinement, sustained by his hope that mercy and reconciliation might still be possible. Can his loved ones ever forgive his crimes?
Copies are available at the front desk or on TRACpac.ab.ca
