πŸ”΅ ONGOING INVESTIGATION πŸ”΅

Police are asking for information after a man was seriously injured in a targeted shooting last night in the city’s N.W.

πŸ“ On Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026, at approx. 10 p.m., police were called for multiple reports of a shooting in the 100 block of Carrington Boulevard N.W.

It was reported that at least 2 vehicles were involved in a shooting, resulting in 1 of the vehicles coming to a stop near 144 Avenue N.W. & Carrington Boulevard N.W.

Witnesses reported that the suspects then fled in an unknown vehicle.

Upon arrival to the scene, police located 1 victim, a 19-year-old man, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to hospital in serious but stable condition.

At this time, there are no suspects in custody and the investigation is ongoing.

While it is believed the shooting was a targeted incident, any act of violence in our city is deeply concerning & is taken very seriously. Targeted does not mean harmless & these incidents can & do put innocent people at risk.

πŸ”΅ CHARGES LAID πŸ”΅

Investigators have charged 2 adults & 1 youth in a March 2026 extortion incident involving threats to a victim & a shooting at her home.

πŸ“ At about 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, a woman began receiving WhatsApp text & voice messages demanding money. The suspects used detailed knowledge of her personal & business affairs, including her name, address, business information & family details. The caller repeatedly contacted the victim & made explicit threats of violence.

About 12 hours later, just before 4:30 a.m., an unknown suspect fired a gun at the victim’s home before fleeing in a vehicle. Using physical & digital evidence, including CCTV, investigators identified a suspect vehicle & several possible suspects.

πŸ“Œ On Wednesday, July 29, 2026, a 17-year-old male was arrested for facilitating communication between the victim & those making threats. He is charged with 1 count of extortion. The youth cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

πŸ“Œ This week, investigators also arrested Kanureet KAUR, 23, of Chestermere. She allegedly provided personal information that helped suspects identify, locate & intimidate the victim & her family. KAUR is charged with 1 count of extortion.

πŸ”΄ We are also asking for help to locate Tanveer SINGH, 21, of Calgary, wanted on a warrant for possession of stolen property over $5,000 in relation to a stolen vehicle used during the shooting.

Photos of KAUR & SINGH are being released to help advance extortion-related investigations & identify everyone involved. When officers are constantly moving from call to call, there is less time to prevent the next one.

One of the key goals of our recommended 2027-2030 Business Plan and Budget is increasing our ability to be proactive. Investments in frontline resources and community-focused initiatives will help officers spend more time in Calgary's downtown core building relationships, addressing social disorder, supporting businesses and connecting people with the services they need.

Programs like Operation Order and Operation Restore show what's possible when officers have the capacity to focus on proactive policing. While these targeted initiatives have helped improve safety in the downtown core, they are temporary measures implemented, re-directing resources from other areas of the city while we work to address staffing pressures. Our goal is to build a police service with the capacity to deliver this kind of proactive, community-focused work every day.

Today, on the 25th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, we remember the lives lost, the heroes who stepped forward & the lasting impact of that day.

The National Day of Service & Remembrance reminds us that service is more than a duty. It is a bond that connects us all.

We honour those who served & continue to serve, embodying the enduring spirit of unity, courage & resilience. We also remember those who have lost their lives to 9/11-related illnesses in the years since. Their sacrifice remains an enduring part of this legacy & they will never be forgotten.
