A very well attended 33,962nd daily Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate with officials & participants of the 100 km walk of Ieper, American Gold Star Mothers, National (Official), Koninklijke Harmonie Ypriana, Stad Ieper, ... Only a few more ceremonies before we reach a new milestone: 34,000 daily acts of remembrance.

Een heel druk bijgewoonde 33.962e dagelijkse Last Postplechtigheid onder de Menenpoort met de organisatoren en deelnemers van de 100 km van Ieper, de American Gold Star Mothers, National (Official), Koninklijke Harmonie Ypriana, Stad Ieper, ... Nog enkele plechtigheden vooraleer we een nieuwe mijlpaal bereiken: 34.000 dagen herdenken.

JOHN UNDERHILL MBE DECEASED / OVERLEDEN - 11/04/2026

It is with heavy hearts that we have received the news of the passing of John Underhill MBE. He was one of the three Patrons of the Last Post Association. For more than 30 years, he was not only a loyal visitor, sponsor and supporter, but above all, he had a clear vision of how we can maintain and safeguard our mission - honoring and remembering the fallen soldiers - in the future. His presence and, most of all, his friendship will be deeply missed. Together with the fallen, we will keep him in our thoughts during this evening’s ceremony. The chairman, all members and buglers wish to offer their heartfelt condolences to Tiggy, Dan and the entire family.

Met veel verdriet hebben wij het nieuws vernomen van het overlijden van John Underhill MBE. Hij was een van de drie beschermheren van de Last Post Association. Meer dan 30 jaar lang was hij niet alleen een trouwe bezoeker, sponsor en supporter, maar bovenal had hij een heldere visie op hoe we onze missie - het eren en gedenken van de gesneuvelde soldaten - ook in de toekomst in stand kunnen houden en veiligstellen. Zijn aanwezigheid en vooral zijn vriendschap zullen zeer gemist worden. Samen met de gesneuvelden, zullen we hem in onze gedachten houden tijdens de plechtigheid van vanavond. De voorzitter, alle leden en klaroeners willen hun oprechte medeleven betuigen aan Tiggy, Dan en de ganse familie.

01/04/2006 - 01/04/2026: BENOIT MOTTRIE CHAIRMAN FOR 20 YEARS / 20 JAAR VOORZITTER

On 1 April 2006, Benoit Mottrie succeeded his uncle Guy Gruwez as sixth chairman of the Last Post Association. Today, Wednesday 1 April 2026, marks his 20th year as chairman. Many congratulations Benoit and a very big thank you for your many and tireless efforts to continue the work and mission of the Last Post Association: we will continue to remember them.

Op 1 april 2006 volgde Benoit Mottrie zijn oom Guy Gruwez op als zesde voorzitter van de Last Post Association. Vandaag, woensdag 1 april 2026 is hij 20 jaar voorzitter. Een hele dikke proficiat Benoit en bijzonder veel dank voor jouw vele en nooit aflatende inspanningen om het werk en de missie van de Last Post Association verder te zetten: we zullen hen blijven herdenken.

Dank u Rik / Thank you Rik - 31/03/2026

Van bij de start in 1928 is het een traditie dat de klaroeners van de Last Post Association ook allemaal lid zijn van de Ieperse brandweer. Na een loopbaan van maar liefst 49 jaar bij de Ieperse (jeugd)brandweer gaat Majoor en postoverste Rik Vandekerckhove vandaag 31 maart 2026 met pensioen. Rik is intussen ook al bijna 45 jaar klaroener en zal zich blijven inzetten voor de Last Post Association. Voorzitter Benoit Mottrie overhandigde Rik een geschenk bij zijn pensionering. Geniet van uw pensioen Rik en dank voor je blijvend engangement binnen de Last Post Association.

Since the start in 1928, it has been a tradition that all buglers of the Last Post Association are also members of the Ypres Fire Brigade. After a career spanning no fewer than 49 years with the Ypres (Youth) Fire Brigade, Major Rik Vandekerckhove is retiring today, 31 March 2026. Rik has also been a bugler for almost 45 years and will continue to serve the Last Post Association. Chairman Benoit Mottrie presented Rik with a gift on his retirement. Enjoy your retirement, Rik, and thank you for your continued commitment to the Last Post Association.
