Islam and Dance – A Contradiction? – THINK Magazine When you think about Islam, do you think about dance? When you think about dance, do you imagine it as a part of meditation?

TODAY, April 29, is International Dance Day.
Dance is not only an aesthetic expression. It is one of the oldest bonds between the human body, consciousness, and existence.
In this accelerating world, our body, nervous system, endocrine system, and mind are trying to carry a new threshold. Perhaps what we need most today is to move from being reactive humans into observing, choosing, and self-centred beings.
This is why I continue to share Dervish in Progress as a contemporary language of consciousness and movement. For me, whirling is not simply turning. It is a magical, extraordinary, and powerful instrument where the body becomes a laboratory, movement becomes thought, and rhythm becomes inner freedom.
Real freedom is not escaping chaos. It is the ability to remain awake inside movement, emotion, speed, and uncertainty.
As Nazım Hikmet beautifully said:
“To live like a tree, single and free,
and like a forest, in brotherhood.”
I invite everyone to experience this contemporary instrument, to become free in their own axis, and to whirl and transform together toward a more conscious world.
With love, I celebrate International Dance Day.
Let us whirl, transform, and awaken. Let us move toward the new world with more openness, courage, and consciousness.
