Requiem Mass for the Departed Redemptorist Novices
Requiem Mass for the Departed Redemptorist Novices
The Holy Innocents, Martyrs – Feast

On this Feast of the Holy Innocents, let us pray that parents and all adults may have God-fearing care for children. The numerous reports of the abuse of children invite us to think and pray for a cessation to the cruel abuse of children and vulnerable adults.
St John, Apostle, Evangelist – Feast

This is the direct testimony of St John the Apostle and Evangelist. He is the one who was blessed to be given the unique insight into Jesus Christ as the Word that became flesh and dwelt among us. May he help us with his prayers so that even if we have not seen Jesus with our eyes, our hearts may never lose touch with the Lord.
We pray the souls of 3 Redemptorist novices who passed on in an accident and also for the recovery of Fr Victor Bushu who is hospitalised
The Holy Family

Each member of the Holy Family is a unique character who had to carry out God’s will under challenging circumstances, which especially included suffering. But the amazing thing is that they did not go into conflict. May they pray for us who have known family conflicts, some of which can be devastating.
MERRY CHRISTMAS to you our friends, followers, and readers! May your conduct today be an expression and extension of our Christmas Prayer and Best Wishes to your friends and family as well.
Today’s biblical quotation is a prayer. Use it to THANK GOD for giving you salvation.
The name John means ‘graced by God’ or simply put, ‘God is gracious’. These are the days of celebrating God’s graciousness towards humankind. Be a fervent part of the celebration in faith, hope, love and joy.

Pleasant reading.
The Almighty has indeed done great things for all of humanity through electing the Virgin Mary to be the Mother of His Incarnate Son for the Salvation of humanity. In order to redeem humankind, the Lord had to take up human nature and sanctify it with his own divinity. No letter, messenger, miracle or spoken word could have achieved the redemption of humanity without the Word taking up human nature. Hence, it is said, whatever he took upon himself, he redeemed. It is human nature that he took upon himself and saved it. So the Lord had done great things for us, through Mary’s cooperation.

By now in the course of this season of waiting, in these last days of Advent, our hearts should be all joy. Our joy is not caused by the groceries, gatherings and parties that might be lined up for Christmas, if we can afford them. Rather the joy in question should be that of a renewed heart, ready to celebrate the birth of our Blessed Lord. If we can stand before the Son of Man with the confidence of a heart free from sin, we can certainly be joyful.

God is firmly, certainly, and undoubtedly with us. Listen whoever has ears! The old prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled through the birth of Jesus Christ born of Virgin Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit. Stay close to the Lord at the core of your being, that is, your heart.

This is exactly the message that our country and the entire world needs. There is so much lack of truthfulness, wisdom, honesty and integrity. If only Christ can be given a home in the hearts of our leaders and all of us to conduct ourselves in imitation of him, we would have the joy of Christmas for a lifetime.

Jesus' birth cleanses all men and women of good will right from the beginning of creation. Do not be left out! By his grace you and me can become members of his spiritual genealogy through faith. To those who believe in him, he gave and gives the power to become children of God, so St John tells us.

Indeed John the Baptist is the greatest of all children born of women because he alone pointed out the Lamb of God. No other prophet or Old Testament priest, king or such else was given that privilege by God. Yet the Word of God, by humbling himself to be born of the Virgin Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit, is and remains greater than even John, because he is the Only Saviour of humankind. Let us turn to him alone who is able to put us at rights with God.

The attractions that are available in the world do sway human hearts, minds and souls away from the Lord. It is very possible for a person to fail to respond to Jesus in this time of Advent because of earthly enjoyments. Living a life without the Lord is living for death. Socrates is well known for having said that ‘An unreflected life is not worth living’. Pause, think, reflect, pray and open your heart to the Saviour, whose incarnation and birth we celebrate at Christmas.

Commemoration of St John of the Cross, Priest, Doctor

John the Baptist was strict with himself, yet at peace with God and faithful to his mission, which involved confronting the authorities of his day. If a person is not disciplined, then repentance cannot happen. Advent is not simply a season of spiritual waiting with anticipation. It is also a time for self-discipline out of love the Lord, so that he may find our hearts both clean and welcoming to him.

St Lucy, Virgin, Martyr

In the end the Jewish leading figures felt obliged to question Jesus' authority. They lagged behind in believing in him. This Advent, in this season of waiting to celebrate the birth of our Blessed Lord, the only one who has the power and authority to redeem us from the grasp and wiles of the devil, do not lag behind by questioning his authority implicitly. How does one do that? By refusing to change the course of one's life from sin to a good holy life.

3rd Sunday of Advent – Gaudete Sunday/Joyful Sunday

Jesus Christ was not born for a contest against anyone of us. His power is in forgiving sin, saving humanity from final damnation and offering us a full share of God’s life, for those who are willing to welcome him into their lives.

Allow the words of the one who cries in the desert appealing to your conscience, to awaken your heart. John the Baptist was ignored by the Pharisees, yet he was totally correct about the coming of the Lord and Messiah. The Pharisees continued with life unabated. What about you?

The Gift of God the Father to the world for its redemption is Jesus Christ. Anyone who chooses to ignore this gift elects to be consigned to darkness. Let us respond to the Lord, the call and offer is still valid.

The Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary – Solemnity

Through her most obedient and loving response to the Angel of the Lord, the Blessed Virgin Mary conformed her life to the purpose of her singular creation by the Lord: to give her the vocation to be the Mother of the Saviour. May she pray for us too so that through Advent spiritual preparations to celebrate the Birth of the Lord, we may grow more and more in recognizing the purpose of our creation and live up to it with the help of God’s grace.

No person is irredeemable as long as he or she accepts to be found by Jesus Christ and live the life of Christian virtue. This is truly consoling news! Hence in Isaiah, the Lord says, “Console my people, console them”.

This is the sweetest piece of news possible! The Lord has no intention of destroying anyone, instead he wants to save us. If it were not for His Mercy, our knees would tremble with fear and guilt. Happy are those who choose to cooperate with His call.

About Jesuits in Zimbabwe

1540/ At the Palazzo San Marco in Rome, Pope Paul III signed the Bull “Regimini militantis ecclesiae,” establishing the Society of Jesus as a religious order.

This Thursday 27 September we celebrate the formation of the Society of Jesus. The Society was founded in 1540 by Ignatius of Loyola and nine companions.

Today there are more than 15,000 Jesuits working in over 100 countries including Zimbabwe and Mozambique. The head of the Order is the Superior General, Fr Arturo Sosa SJ based in Rome and for our local province, Fr Chiedza Chimhanda SJ is the Provincial.

In Zimbabwe the Jesuits brothers and priests in the province work in over 20 educational institutions, 9 parishes, 1 centre of spirituality, 1 university chaplaincy, 5 missions and several several social centres for orphans and street children.
