The Ministry of Mines and Mining Development in Zimbabwe is actively conducting Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) training for artisanal and small-scale miners across the country. This initiative aims to improve safety standards, promote responsible mining practices, and reduce accidents ¹ ² ³.
The training covers essential topics such as:
- *Safe Mining Practices*: Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), safe equipment handling, and emergency response procedures
- **Environmental
- *Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Management Plan (EMP)*: Understanding environmental regulations and implementing sustainable mining practices
- *Legal Compliance*: Title acquisition, statutory fees, explosive permits, and licenses
- *Health and Safety Regulations*: Awareness of occupational health risks and prevention strategies

The Ministry's efforts are supported by organizations like the Zimbabwe Safety, Health and Environmental Council (ZIMSHEC) and the Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF). These partnerships aim to formalize artisanal mining, promote responsible practices, and improve the overall well-being of miners ⁴ ⁵.

ZIMSHEC director Mr Makumba Nyenje mainstreaming the organisation' s constitutional mandate in protecting the environment as enshrined in chapter 73 of the supreme law and also synchronising with the Traditional Leaders Act. He was speaking during a two day District Mining Carnival hosted by Silveira House in Mberengwa on the 11th and 12th of November. The fully fledged Carnival which drew attention of various stakeholders was held under the theme " Towards building sustainable mining future: Enhancing Environmental, Social and Governance Practises for Community- Centered Development."

Happening now inMberengwa Zimshec in collaboration with Silveira House is the Traditional Leaders dialogue on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in partneship with Ministry of Mines and EIA Consultants
Traditional Leaders have raised concerns on issues to do with laws on pe***ng, that the new mines bill should address miners to address and seek conscent from local leadership before seeking mining rights in a given area.
