Today on the 24th of June 2022 The Levy Mwanawasa medical university optometry association visited mtendele secondary school for a carrier's talk and the pupils said yes to Optometry
We also took time to sensitize the pupils on the importance of eye health care and how refractive errors can affect them if left uncorrected..
The institution was impressed and they requested for a screening to be conducted within there premises

Diagnosis and treatment?

Today the Levy Mwanawasa medical university optometry association visited Kaunda square secondary school for an eye health care talk and a careers talk
The trip was successful and productive,,,many pupils are now fully equipped of what optometry is and are ready to go for it..
We also took time to edu educate pupils on how refractive errors if left uncorrected can affect there accademic life..

THE NOMENCLATURE FOR VARIOUS COMPONENTS OF THE HYPERMETROPIA. .

Hypermetropia Is A Refractive Error In Which The Parallel Rays Of Light From Infinity Focus Theoretically Behind The Retina With Accommodation In A Relaxed State.

Total Hypemetropia Is The Total Amount Of Refractive Error, Which Is Estimated After Complete Cycloplegia With Atropine. It Consists Of Latent And Manifest Hypermetropia.

1. Latent Hypermetropia Implies The Amount Of Hypermetropia ( About 1D ) Which Is Normally Corrected By The Inherent Tone Of Ciliary Muscle.

2. Manifest Hypermetropia Is The Remaining Portion Of Total Hypermetropia, Which Is Not Corrected By The Ciliary Tone. It Consist Of Two Components, The Facultative And The Absolute Hypermetropia.

A) Facultative Hypermetropia Constitutes That Part Which Can Be Corrected By The Patients Accommodative Effort.
B)Absolute Hypermetropia Is The Residual Part Of Manifest Hypermetropia Which Cannot Be Corrected By The Patients Accommodative Efforts.

TOTAL HYPERMETROPIA = LATENT + MANIFET ( Facultative + Absolute )

🚨 OPTOMETRY ASSOCIATION OUTREACH PROGRAMS HIGHLIGHTS HELD AT PHI MALL 📸
On 23rd April,2022. The Optometry Association which is under school of medicine and clinical sciences faculty (SOMCS) held an eye outreach program in conjunction with Smart eye clinic Zambia, the exercise saw alot of resident's coming to have their eyes checked, the Optometry program Coordinator was also in attendance together with the SOMCS acting Secretary General as well as the vice Chairperson just to appreciate how their Association was doing. Thanks to everyone that came through and if you were prescribed spectacles/lens do come through to the eye clinic to have them made for you.
