In just the first quarter of 2024, Zambia recorded over That means 27 children were sexually abused every day. Section 19 of the Childrenโ€™s Code Act No. 12 of 2022 makes defilement a ๐ฌ๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐จ๐ฎ๐ฌ ๐œ๐ซ๐ข๐ฆ๐ข๐ง๐š๐ฅ ๐จ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž punishable by law, not a private family issue to be settled with money or silence. When families, teachers, and even community leaders choose negotiation over justice, they shield perpetrators and endanger more children.

We call on the Zambian Police ๐’๐ž๐ซ๐ฏ๐ข๐œ๐ž, ๐“๐ซ๐š๐๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐š๐ฅ ๐€๐ฎ๐ญ๐ก๐จ๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ž๐ฌ, and the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, to put an end to these out-of-court settlements. Justice for children cannot be bought.
