JG du Plessis is available for appointments in Gardens, Southern Paarl and Worcester. πΏ
As an Educational Psychologist and Family Practitioner, JG works with children, adolescents, adults, parents and families, recognising that psychological wellbeing looks different at every stage of life.
Sometimes support is needed when things feel overwhelming. Sometimes it is about understanding yourself or someone you love a little better. It can also be about navigating relationships, parenting, learning, development, emotional wellbeing or significant changes in life.
Whatever brings you through the door, the focus is on creating a space where you feel heard, understood and supported as you work towards meaningful change.

This Pink October, we also stand with those affected by breast cancer, and the families and communities walking alongside them. π
Your childβs subject choices can influence which doors remain open later on. So when should you actually start thinking about them?
With the school year coming to a close, now is a good time to start looking ahead, especially if your child will be making subject choices next year.
One of the questions parents often ask me is when their child should have a subject choice assessment.
I prefer the assessment to happen before the decision starts feeling urgent. It gives a learner time to understand their interests, strengths and aptitudes, while also considering how different subjects may connect with future study options.
For me, a subject choice assessment is not about telling a learner what they should become one day. It is about helping them understand themselves better so they can make an informed decision with greater confidence.
In this reel, I unpack when I recommend considering a subject choice assessment and why timing matters.

October turns pink for a reason. π
Behind every pink ribbon is a person. A mother. A sister. A daughter. A friend. A family whose world has been changed by words they never expected to hear.
This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we honour those currently facing treatment, those learning to live beyond it, those who quietly support someone they love, and those whose absence is deeply felt.
Awareness matters. So does compassion.
Check in on the women in your life. Encourage the conversations that can feel uncomfortable. Make space for fear, hope, exhaustion and courage to exist together.
And to every person walking this road, in whatever way, may you feel held by the people around you.
This October, we wear pink with purpose. π©·

Heritage is more than where we come from. It lives in the stories we carry, the people who shaped us, the languages we speak, the traditions we keep and the communities we call home. πΏπ¦
Today, on Heritage Day, we celebrate the richness of South Africa and the many different identities, cultures and experiences that make our country what it is.
May we also remember that belonging matters. Every person deserves to feel seen, understood and valued within their community.
Happy Heritage Day, South Africa. πΏπ¦β€οΈ

People rarely fall apart because of one thing.
Usually, life has been taking pieces for a while.
A difficult relationship. Work pressure. Financial stress. Parenting. Expectations. Poor sleep. Change. The things you keep telling yourself you should be able to handle.
From the outside, you might still look completely fine.
You go to work. You answer messages. You laugh with people. You get things done.
But functioning and coping are not always the same thing.
Sometimes something seemingly small feels enormous because there simply wasnβt much capacity left when it arrived.
Part of looking after your mental health is learning to notice what is taking from you, what is sustaining you, and when you might need support.
So perhaps the question isnβt always, βCan I keep going?β
Perhaps it is, βWhat do I need to put back?β
If you feel like you have been holding everything together for a little too long, you do not have to wait until everything comes tumbling down before reaching out.
I offer services in Psychotherapy for children, adolescents and adults, psycho educational and neurodiversity assessments, school placement and accommodation assessments, subject choice and career guidance, family law related services, supervised contact and psycho legal work.

Understanding yourself, or someone you care about, can start with understanding how they experience the world. π§
Neurodiversity assessments can provide greater clarity around individual strengths and challenges, including learning, attention, communication, emotional regulation and everyday functioning.
These assessments are available across all ages, from children and adolescents to adults.
The purpose is not simply to find a label. It is to develop a clearer understanding of the individual and identify meaningful support for school, work, relationships and daily life.
Neurodiversity Assessments now available in Gardens, Cape Town.
