MAKE TIME FOR AN EYE EXAM

👶 Infants (Birth to 12 Months)

At every well-child visit:

-Eye health history (family history of eye disease, prematurity, etc.)

-External eye inspection

-Red reflex test (to detect cataracts, retinoblastoma)

-Pupil response

-Ocular alignment and movement

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), screening should begin at birth and continue at routine visits.

✔ Binocular or monocular mode
Can measure each eye separately if needed (e.g., for strabismus/aphakia).

• Estimated sphere (S)
• Cylinder (C)
• Axis
• PD
• Pupil size
• Referral recommendation (Pass / Refer / Inconclusive)

Plusoptix screeners and autorefractors can be used on very young children, including infants. Most models are designed to screen children starting from about 6 months of age.
