The Rise of Netflix and Video Streaming Platforms

There has been a recent trend of video streaming platforms and channels gaining massive popularity. Fuelled by niche platforms available and the power of social media, upcoming celebs are being catapulted from relative anonymity into household names virtually overnight. People of the world have been looking for new and innovative ways to consume media and Netflix and other video streaming platforms are starting to deliver in a big way! Here are a few unexpected ways in which video streaming sites are changing our world.

The Entertainment Industry
It is arguably THE industry to pursue right now due to the dynamism, demands and monetary value within this cultural and digital age. In South Africa alone there is an estimated 25,000 people working within the film and video industry and more content is consumed in this country than anywhere else in Africa.
According to a recent National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) report, the total production of movies in the economy could lead to R12.2-billion in the near term. This makes this industry critical to the growth and development of the country's economy and employment market.
Other than this industry generating billions every year, it is fast becoming a multi-faceted field that almost everyone can pursue in some way or another. Any engaging video content can actually be considered entertaining and lucrative. There have also been many YouTubers who have made millions of dollars by sharing their creative, unique, engaging and public identifying content.
Of course, movies are made for entertainment, but are they really being made today - for entertainment OR to inform and educate?
One thing is for certain, it is an evergreen field with a plethora of opportunity.

Acronym: BI – refers to the technologies, applications, practices and analyses integrated into a cohesive structure to ensure that the best strategies and business decisions are implemented.

Companies today are redefining their business models based on this evolved business concept. As technology and culture emerge significantly higher, the need for a better understanding of business processes has increased. What in your opinion is defining business intelligence today?

In pursuit of creating a research culture, Educor brands have engaged in a research colloquium. These colloquiums are an academic platform in which academics gather, share and disseminate their research findings.

The academic year kicked off with a series of dynamic research colloquiums hosted by our various brands.

The intrigued audience looked on as students engaged in a virtual learning environment. It formed part of a series of interesting discussions at City Campus’ 3rd annual colloquium on 5 July 2019. The theme for the event was “Student-centred Pedagogy: Cross -Cultural Facilitation”.

We at Educor are fortunate to have the support of our staff and shareholders to capacitate, empower and inspire our academics to allow our research department; to develop and grow.
In 2016 research initiatives included amongst others workshops for academics, colloquiums, the first Educor Multi-disciplinary Journal, online staff development, research projects and selection of research representations from each brand.
