Hammarsdale’s young soccer talent in action

Keystone Park supported local soccer development in Hammarsdale through its support of Zamokuhle Sports Academy, which hosted a Sports Day at the Vukuziphathe Primary School fields.

The event brought together boys and girls from Under 7 through to Under 17, with teams from across Hammarsdale and Inchanga taking part in a day of competition and soccer development.

As part of its support, Keystone Park undertook the cutting of the sports field, ensuring the teams had a well-maintained playing surface for the games.

Mkhelele Towing Services also supported the Sports Day, contributing to the event and helping create an opportunity for the young players to take part in a day of soccer, competition and community.

It was great to see parents coming out to cheer on and support the young players throughout the day, creating an encouraging atmosphere around the games.

Congratulations to Zamokuhle Sports Academy Head Coach Zamo “Rano” Shezi for hosting the Sports Day and creating an opportunity for young players to compete, develop their skills and build camaraderie through soccer.

Pothole repairs continue across Hammarsdale

Work continues on the Buckman Laboratories Pothole Repair Programme, with repairs currently underway along Kelly Road in Hammarsdale.

Following work completed on Old Georgedale Road in Cato Ridge, the team has now moved into Hammarsdale, addressing potholes and damaged sections of road as they progress
through the identified areas.

Kelly Road is currently receiving attention, with the team working through sections requiring repairs before moving on to MR385 and other roads in the area.

The programme continues to make steady progress, with each completed section contributing to improved road conditions and safer movement for residents, businesses and motorists using these routes.

As the work continues, the focus remains on addressing priority areas and improving the condition of roads across Hammarsdale and surrounding areas.

Local partners team up for school improvement

HCRDA member Killarney Brick and Block has teamed up with Build It Mega Hammarsdale and Specialised Security Services (SSS) to support the ongoing infrastructure improvements at Georgedale Primary School through a donation of building blocks.

The contribution will assist with the continued work to improve the school’s infrastructure and create a better environment for learners and teachers.

The partnership brings together local businesses and service providers to support a project that directly benefits the school and the wider Georgedale community.

Thank you to Killarney Brick and Block, Build It Mega Hammarsdale and SSS for contributing to the continued improvement of Georgedale Primary School.

MEET THE TEAM | NONDUMISO MTHEMBU

For Nondumiso Mthembu from Ntshongweni Ward 7, being selected to be part of the Buckman Pothole Repair Programme has been an opportunity she takes pride in.

Nondumiso is part of the team as a Flaglady, helping to manage traffic and keep both the roadwork team and motorists safe while repairs are underway. But her role does not stop there. Through the programme, she has gained the confidence and practical skills to take part in the full pothole repair process, from cutting and cleaning the damaged area through to preparing it for repair.

For Nondumiso, being part of the programme means more than simply having a role on the team. It has given her the opportunity to learn, contribute and work alongside others while gaining practical experience that she can carry forward.
She is proud to have been selected and to be part of a programme that is making a visible difference to roads in the community.

The Buckman Pothole Repair Programme continues to equip local participants with practical skills while addressing road maintenance needs across Hammarsdale, Cato Ridge and surrounding areas.

KwaXimba Youth takes the stage

HCRDA joined stakeholders and community partners at KwaXimba FETCH for a Youth Talent Showcase, creating a platform for young people to express themselves through acting, singing, poetry and creative arts.

The showcase brought together young people, community organisations and stakeholders to celebrate local talent and create an environment where youth can build confidence, explore their abilities and share their creativity.

The initiative was supported through collaboration between the steering committee, HCRDA, Hibiscus Hospital, Msunduzi SAPS and various community partners, whose involvement helped create a supportive platform for the young participants.

Programmes such as these demonstrate the value of collaboration in creating opportunities for young people to participate, develop their talents and connect with the wider community.

MEET THE TEAM | APHELELE LUTHULI

For Aphelele Luthuli from Hammarsdale Unit 2, being part of the Buckman Pothole Repair Programme has been an opportunity to gain new skills and practical experience while contributing to road maintenance in the community.

As a member of the Pothole Maintenance team, Aphelele has learnt to operate various machinery and tools, with the saw cutter becoming one of his favourite machines to work with. He has also gained experience in effective traffic marshalling and roadwork safety.

“I am excited that the programme has given us both theoretical knowledge and practical experience. The stipend is also a great motivation because we are gaining skills while earning from the work we are doing.”

The team is currently working along Old Georgedale Road in Cato Ridge and will move into Hammarsdale from next week.

HCRDA member Measured Ability South Africa (MASA) is currently recruiting for a Admin GRN Clerk position based in Cato Ridge, KwaZulu-Natal.

Admin GRN Clerk who will provide administrative and goods-receiving support. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurately capturing Goods Received Notes (GRNs), verifying deliveries against documentation, maintaining records, and ensuring that all receiving information is correctly processed.

Requirements:
• Grade 12 / Matric.
• Previous experience as a GRN Clerk, Receiving Clerk, Admin Clerk, Stock Clerk, or similar role.
• At least 2-3 years’ relevant administrative or goods-receiving experience within a retail warehouse environment.
• Efficient with a WMS platform.
• Experience working with GRN processing and stock documentation.
• Good computer literacy, particularly Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
• Experience with an ERP, stock management, or warehouse management system will be advantageous.
• Strong numerical and data-capturing skills.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Building confidence ahead of exams

Yesterday, HCRDA member Buckman Laboratories, through its Whole School Support Programme, supported the Department of Education Pinetown District Grade 12 Exam Motivation and Readiness Programme hosted at Ashley Primary School.

The programme brought together Grade 12 learners and High School Principals from schools across the Pinetown District, while Buckman Laboratories supported the participation of schools from the Hammarsdale Circuit, creating a platform focused on encouraging, inspiring and empowering learners and school leadership towards academic excellence.

As part of its support, Buckman Laboratories provided breakfast and lunch to the 75 Grade 12 learners from all 11 Hammarsdale schools in attendance, ensuring learners were supported throughout the programme.

The programme addressed the holistic needs of learners through prayer, motivation and emotional and mental well-being interventions, while reinforcing the importance of commitment, resilience and consistent preparation. Learners also received practical guidance on working towards a Bachelor Pass, understanding the examination timetable and question levels, developing effective study timetables and strengthening techniques for multiple-choice, source-based, essay, calculation and visual questions.

The programme also created an opportunity to strengthen school leadership and share practical techniques that can contribute towards improving learner performance as Grade 12 learners prepare for their final examinations.
