*Highlanders chairman, vice and treasurer killed in road accident*

BULAWAYO – Three top Highlanders executives perished on Thursday evening after their vehicle hit a cow, leading to a multi-vehicle collision in Lochard, about 50km from Bulawayo on the Harare highway.

Club chairman Kenneth Mhlophe, a retired army colonel, vice chairman Fiso Siziba and treasurer Nkani Khoza were returning from Kariba driving in a Ford Raptor.

Highlanders lost 1-0 on the road to ZPC Kariba on Wednesday.

Khoza was allegedly behind the wheel of the Ford Raptor which hit a cow at around 8PM before side-swiping a bus heading towards Harare. The impact disabled the vehicle’s controls before the collision with the bus.

A woman travelling with the Highlanders executives was allegedly thrown out of the vehicle when it overturned, before being run-over by another car, killing her instantly.

The Bulawayo Fire Brigade was called to the scene to help remove the bodies of the executives trapped in their vehicle.

Mhlophe, who owned Nokel Security, was in his second spell as Highlanders chairman and had recently indicated that he would not seek re-election when his three-year term ends in January next year.

Siziba was a superintendent in the Zimbabwe Republic Police while Khoza was owner of Totally Uniforms, a company specialising in school supplies.

HARARE – Troubled hip-hop star Holy Ten was arrested on Tuesday accused of ra**ng a girl, 14.

The Pressure hitmaker recently completed rehabilitation for drug and alcohol addiction at a facility in Rustenburg, South Africa, funded by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s son, Collins.

Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said: “The ZRP confirms the arrest of a local musician, 27, on allegations of r**e involving a 14-year-old complainant in Hatfield area, Harare, on July 20, 2026. More details will be released in due course.”

Holy Ten, whose real name is Mukudzei Modecay Chitsama, has clashed with several high-profile figures, including preacher Uebert Angel and Collins Mnangagwa.

After collaborating with Winky D on their hit single Ibotso, he later claimed he had been coerced into voicing lyrics seen as critical of the ruling Zanu PF party.

He would later soften that claim, saying he was “not forced as such” to sing the politically charged lyrics, adding: “But Winky D bought me two Stretons and Hawaiian pizza knowing if I get drunk I won’t ask too many questions.”

*UK triple murder suspect bought gun in South Africa, possibly to kill himself, court hears*

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – A man arrested in Johannesburg on Friday who is suspected of murdering his wife and two daughters in Britain bought an unlicensed gun, possibly to kill himself, South ‌African police said.

Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma, 45, a British citizen of Zimbabwean heritage, appeared in a Johannesburg magistrate’s court on Monday and was remanded in custody until July 22, for authorities to establish whether he is in South Africa legally.

He has been charged ⁠in South Africa with illegal possession of a firearm, which carries a potential 15-year prison sentence for first-time offenders, while the court will also consider whether he should be extradited to Britain.

British prosecutors have authorised police to charge Tshuma with three counts of murder, after the bodies of his wife, 42, and daughters, 15 and 5, were found at their home in Bedfordshire early this month.

Tshuma left ‌Britain ⁠via Heathrow Airport before the bodies were discovered, South African police said.

“According to our investigation, after landing in South Africa on July 5, he then went to one of the townships and he bought this particular unlicensed ⁠firearm,” South African police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe told reporters.

“It is our suspicion that this … firearm was going to be used to end his life.”

South Africa ⁠had received a provisional extradition request from Britain but was waiting for a full document, Mathe added.

She said Tshuma had family in ⁠South Africa who helped police apprehend him.

“His family did not harbour him. … They played a very pivotal role,” Mathe said. – Reuters

*Nurses demand urgent action at Ngomahuru Psychiatric Hospital after patient dies following escape*

THE Zimbabwe Nurses Association (ZINA) has called on the government to urgently address deteriorating infrastructure and security at Ngomahuru Psychiatric Hospital in Masvingo following the death of a mentally ill patient who escaped from the facility.

Beatrice Murera was found dead in the Tugwi River after escaping from the psychiatric hospital on June 16 through a damaged perimeter fence. Her body was recovered on Tuesday this week.

In a statement, ZINA president Enock Dongo described conditions at the institution as dire, warning that both patients and health workers were being exposed to unnecessary risks due to ageing infrastructure and inadequate security.

“The Association understands that the hospital’s perimeter fence has been in a state of disrepair for an extended period. Concerns regarding its condition have reportedly been raised on numerous occasions, with recommendations made for its urgent replacement. However, no meaningful intervention has been undertaken to address the problem.

“ZINA has also received disturbing reports that the Acute Ward, which houses patients with severe mental health conditions requiring close supervision, is in a deplorable state.

“The ward’s roof is reportedly on the verge of collapsing, posing a serious danger to both patients and staff. The damaged structure has also created additional escape points, making it easier for patients to leave the facility unnoticed,” said Dongo.

Murera’s death is not the first tragedy linked to patient’s escape from the hospital.

Another patient was previously killed by a crocodile after attempting to cross the nearby Tugwi River.

Dongo said the hospital’s proximity to the river, coupled with crumbling infrastructure, had significantly increased the risks faced by patients.

“Further compounding the situation is the loss of electricity, following the destruction of the hospital’s transformer by fire last month. The resulting power outages have left wards in darkness, particularly during winter, when the existing solar system is unable to generate sufficient electricity to provide reliable lighting throughout the night.

“These conditions significantly undermine patient security and make effective monitoring extremely difficult. The hospital’s proximity to the Tugwi River presents an even greater danger. Patients who escape from the institution face life-threatening risks, including drowning or attacks by crocodiles, making urgent improvements to security and infrastructure a matter of life and death.

“As a result of the deteriorating infrastructure and inadequate security measures, patients are reportedly able to leave the hospital premises with relative ease, exposing them to numerous dangers, including injury, exploitation and, tragically, loss of life,” added Dongo.

ZINA urged authorities to urgently rehabilitate the hospital’s infrastructure and strengthen security measures to prevent further avoidable deaths.

A 25-year-old Chiredzi man is in police custody after allegedly murdering his two children, aged 3 years and 18 months, at his homestead in Musengi Village under Chief Masivamele in the early hours of Thursday, 18 June. The incident occurred between 3 am and 4 am following a misunderstanding between the accused, Josiah Dumela, and his wife, Laiza Matavi, 39. Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident and the suspect’s arrest, saying he was assisting with investigations. _*— Pindula*_

A teacher at Bonda Girls High School in Mutasa District, Manicaland, is said to be on the run after being implicated in an alleged sexual misconduct case involving a female pupil, according to an internal report released by the school. The report says security staff got a tip-off on the evening of 24 June that a female pupil had allegedly got into a teacher’s private car and was taken to his house. Security officers reportedly followed the vehicle and intercepted it after the pupil was seen leaving the house and getting back into the car. A Chiredzi man arrested on Tuesday after allegedly appearing in a viral video criticising President Emmerson Mnangagwa and businessman Wicknell Chivayo over the demolition of vendors’ stalls in the town has been granted bail. Tafadzwa Matanhuse, 32, was given US$200 bail by Chiredzi Magistrate Tendai Mutamba on Thursday afternoon. King Mswati grants Wicknell *Chivayo a diplomatic passport during Eswatini visit*

HARARE – Controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo says he has been granted Eswatini citizenship and a diplomatic passport by King Mswati III, following what he described as an audience with the monarch at the Royal Palace on Thursday.

In a lengthy post on his verified page, accompanied by photographs of him holding the diplomatic passport, Chivayo said the king’s “most humbling instruction to his administration” resulted in him being granted citizenship “as the king accepted me as his young, fellow African son.”

“Coupled to this, I was further presented with a diplomatic passport, meant to facilitate ease of travel and doing business in Eswatini, in the various pursuits in infrastructure development,” he wrote.

Chivayo said the king had taken a “keen interest” in his philanthropic work in Zimbabwe and across the continent, and had commended his support for “revolutionary parties in the Southern African region, particularly Zanu PF under the visionary leadership of H.E. President E.D Mnangagwa.”

He said discussions with the king extended to investment opportunities in Eswatini’s energy sector, with Chivayo offering assurances that his companies and “strategic technical partners” stood ready to mobilise capital and raise debt funding from local banks and pension funds for “bankable projects.”

“Unlike our beloved motherland Zimbabwe, which has suffered from decades of economic sanctions and perceived sovereign risk, Eswatini presents a grand opportunity for massive development,” he wrote, citing the kingdom’s credit rating and support from multilateral development financiers.

Through his companies Intratrek and IMC Communications, Chivayo has won state contracts worth nearly $1 billion in Zimbabwe, mainly in the energy sector.

An ally of Mnangagwa and major Zanu PF financier, Chivayo is accused of exploiting his proximity to power to win the contracts. He denies any corruption.

King Mswati is the latest head of state to open his palace doors to the 45-year-old who has been hosted by a string of African leaders including Kenya’s William Ruto, Tanzania’s Samia Suluhu Hassan, Peter Mutharika of Malawi, Mozambican leader Daniel Chapo, Nigerian president Bola Tinubu and Zambia’s Hakainde Hichilema among others.

*4 killed in protests over Kenya fuel price hikes as strike strands commuters*

NAIROBI, Kenya – Four people were killed in protests against fuel price hikes ‌prompted by the Iran war in several Kenyan towns on Monday, its interior minister said, after a nationwide public transport strike stranded commuters.

The Transport Sector Alliance said on Sunday that vehicles affiliated with its member associations would stop operating from midnight in protest, while police said they would act to tackle any disruptions.

“We lost four Kenyans in today’s violence, which also saw more than 30 people injured,” Interior Minister Kipchumba Murkomen told a televised press conference.

Kenya’s ⁠Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority last week raised retail fuel prices by as much as 23.5 percent – after hiking them by 24.2 percent last month – as the conflict in the Middle East squeezed global oil and gas supplies.

Earlier on Monday Finance Minister John Mbadi had said the current prices were already subsidised.

A meeting of the transport and energy ministers with public transport operators late on Monday to discuss a solution yielded little breakthrough, with the association accepting a proposal from the government that it would bridge the disparity between diesel and kerosene prices to prevent adulteration.

However they disagreed on the extent to which the prices could reduce, with the associations asking for 46 shillings per litre.

“We have not agreed on anything… What we are urging the president is that ‌he must ⁠do something because the strike will continue. The strike is still on,” Albert Karakacha, chairman of the public service vehicles owners’ association, told a news conference.

On Monday morning, roads into the capital Nairobi were blocked by striking transport operators and scattered groups of protesters.

Police fired tear gas in some areas while some protesters lit tyres to cut access to key roads, worsening congestion and leaving many commuters stranded.

In ⁠Mombasa, Kenya’s main port city, the strike raised fears of supply-chain delays.

Kenya imports nearly all its fuel products from the Middle East via government-to-government deals with Gulf suppliers. The fuel price hike has sharply raised transport fares and pushed up the cost of basic goods, ⁠deepening pressure on households already struggling with the high cost of living.

Public relations worker Gabriel Odhiambo, 24, said his transport costs had doubled and that food prices had also risen. Four tomatoes now cost 60 shillings (50 U.S. cents) – a threefold increase.

Kenya ⁠raised the pump price of super petrol in Nairobi to 214.25 Kenyan shillings ($1.66) a litre from 206.97, and diesel to 242.92 shillings from 196.63 for the May 15-June 14 cycle, while kerosene was unchanged at 152.78 shillings.

A Marondera-based man has lost his rural home to a young man he had employed as a caretaker, allowing him to live on the property rent-free while ensuring its safety. *Chivayo’s ex-wife demands $25 million payout, 40k monthly maintanence*

HARARE – Wicknell Chivayo’s former partner is demanding a $25 million lump sum payment, $40,000 a month in spousal maintenance and a fleet of luxury vehicles including three Rolls Royces as part of divorce proceedings, court papers reveal.

The shocking financial demands by Sonja Madzikanda were laid bare through an urgent chamber application in which Chivayo, the flamboyant businessman whose mysterious fortune has made him one of Zimbabwe’s most controversial figures, went to court to force access to their two minor children after accusing her of using the children as leverage to extract money from him.

The High Court’s Family Division withheld judgement as Chivayo seeks a provisional order granting him interim access to the children, a boy born in January 2018, and a girl born in March 2019.

Chivayo wants access on alternating weeks inclusive of weekends, half of each school holiday, alternating birthdays and alternating public and Christian holidays.

But the access dispute is only the most recent flashpoint in a far broader and more bruising legal war playing out in the High Court, in which Madzikanda has filed for divorce and laid claim to a substantial slice of Chivayo’s empire.

In previously unreported summons filed in January 2026 through Mahuni Gidiri Law Chambers, Madzikanda argues that the couple entered a valid customary law marriage on or about July 17, 2017, with lobola negotiated and paid.

She says the marriage, though unregistered, is governed by the Marriages Act and can only be dissolved by a competent court – meaning, she argues, that Chivayo’s payment of gupuro, a traditional divorce token, in early 2024 carried no legal weight.

On that basis, she is claiming the Matrimonial Causes Act applies in full, entitling her to an equitable share of assets accumulated during the union.

Her financial claims are extraordinary in scale. She seeks a once-off lump sum maintenance payment of $25 million, monthly spousal maintenance of $40,000 until she remarries, and an annual budget of $1 million for holidays and entertainment covering, her papers say, vacations, recreational activities and cultural experiences integral to the children’s upbringing and her own wellbeing.

She also wants Chivayo to service her motor vehicles twice a year.

She is also claiming sole and exclusive ownership of several immovable properties: a stand in Gletwyn Township, Unit 4 at Rikitayi Villas on Chisolme Road in Ballantyne Park, and a Johannesburg apartment at Davinci Suites in Sandton.

She is also seeking to be awarded seven vehicles from the marital estate – three Rolls Royces (a Spectre, a Ghost and a Phantom), a Range Rover, a V-Class Mercedes-Benz, a Mercedes-Benz Maybach and a Lexus SUV.

For the children’s maintenance, she is seeking full coverage of their educational costs from their current levels through to the completion of tertiary education, all extramural and sporting activities, uncapped Wi-Fi access, international medical insurance, and seasonal clothing allowances.

In her declaration, Madzikanda provides a sprawling inventory of what she alleges are matrimonial assets. Beyond the vehicles and properties she is claiming outright, she lists additional properties at 48 Lanark Road in Avondale, 14 Stonechat Lane in Greystone Park, and the Churchill Avenue property in Alexandra Park that serves as the registered address of Chivayo’s company Intratek ZW.

She also lists business interests in Intratek, WMC Trading, IMC Communications, Trintas Petroleum, and Eldo Pvt Ltd, and a private jet whose precise details, she acknowledges, are not known to her but which she believes is owned, controlled or regularly used by Chivayo.

She further seeks an order piercing the veil of the WMC Family Trust, arguing that assets held within it should be treated as Chivayo’s personal assets, or joint matrimonial assets, for the purposes of calculating the extent of the estate to be divided.

Madzikanda argues that the common estate was built by Chivayo’s commercial industry and her own thrift, and that neither could have succeeded without the other.

Chivayo, represented by Mpofu Mazhata Chambers, has filed a robust plea dismissing the financial claims as legally baseless and, in the bluntest of terms, extortionate.

His lawyers raise multiple preliminary objections, arguing the customary union was never registered within the 12 months required by the Marriages Act, and therefore carries legal validity only for the purposes of the children’s status, guardianship, custody and succession rights, not for spousal maintenance or division of assets.

They further argue that Madzikanda herself terminated the union by paying gupuro, extinguishing any residual entitlements, and that the parties’ estates were never put in community of property and no ante-nuptial contract existed.

The lawyers are contemptuous of the financial claims. Madzikanda, they argue, made no contribution to the acquisition of any of the assets she is now pursuing.

The assets, they say, are entirely the product of Chivayo’s own industry and investment. They describe the maintenance and asset claims as “frivolous and vexatious,” and pray that they be dismissed with costs on the punitive scale of legal practitioner and client “given the irresponsible and extortionist nature of the claim.”

On spousal maintenance specifically, Chivayo’s lawyers are unsparing: he has no obligation to maintain a woman who voluntarily terminated the union. She is an adult, they say, who must support herself from her own resources.

“Defendant is not her meal-ticket for life,” Chivayo’s lawyer Silvester Hash*ti argues in court papers.

On custody, Chivayo concedes that the children should remain primarily with Madzikanda, but only in exchange for a reasonable and court-regulated access regime that is, as his lawyers put it, “not subject to plaintiff’s whims and caprices.”

It is on that access question that matters turned most acutely urgent. In his founding affidavit supporting the chamber application, Chivayo swears that Madzikanda has systematically denied him access to their children on every occasion he has attempted to exercise his parental rights, and that access is only ever granted after she makes what he characterises as extortionate monetary demands.

He identifies the most recent denial as occurring on February 28, 2026. The denial, he says, has extended to blocking telephone contact, withholding school information and preventing him from attending the children’s school and social events.

His certificate of urgency, signed by Brighton Pabwe of Venturas and Samukange Attorneys, argues the children – both under 10 years – are at critical developmental stages that require the active presence of both parents. The ongoing denial, the certificate warns, risks parental alienation, a gradual and potentially irreversible process of emotional estrangement.

“Lost birthdays, milestones and daily interactions are irrecoverable,” Chivayo’s affidavit states. “The prejudice is ongoing and cumulative.”

Chivayo, who is now remarried to Lucy Muteke since March 2025, says no court order lawfully restricts his contact with the children, that he has a clean record with no history of abuse or neglect, and that he remains financially and emotionally committed to their welfare.
