Abacus DIVISIONS Racing Retires from Racing 🥲

After nights of deliberation and careful consideration as well as the best interest of the team members, the Abacus Divisions Racing team decided to retire from racing following the conclusion of the 2023 season. This puts an end to the Geldenhuys family’s colourful racing career that spanned many years and many disciplines of motorsports.

Our decision to quit racing wasn’t taken lightly but it was based on the fact that in 2024, Gerard will be pursuing his Master's degree in Statistics in Europe, Antwan needs to fully commit himself to his 2nd-year Engineering studies at Stellies and Org and Karen will be spending significant time in Greece with their newest tourism venture.

The logistical challenges of racing and our new time constraints makes it difficult to maintain the competitive edge needed for such a competitive sport and hence our decision to hang up the racing suits and helmets for the last time.

As you know, racing is a sport that demands immense time, dedication and resources and we're extremely grateful for the encouragement and support we've received along the way. As a family, we've reached a juncture where new challenges and opportunities beckon each of us individually.

Racing has been a profound teacher for all of us, strengthening our family bonds as we experienced the highs of race victories, the lows of setbacks. But with all of this we celebrated every small milestone together. The investment we made in racing wasn't just financial; it yielded invaluable returns in the form of cherished memories and deepened relationships, both within our family and with those of you who were part of our journey.

At this point we also want to express our heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated technical team - Ian, Cornel and Nono. Their hard work, expertise, and unwavering dedication have been instrumental in our achievements over the years. Without their tireless efforts, we wouldn't have reached the heights we did in our racing endeavours. Their contributions have been invaluable and we'll always cherish the memories and lessons learned during our time together - on and off the track.

As a team, we've grown and learned together, fostering strong bonds and experienced the camaraderie that comes with being part of a racing family.

As we are looking forward to the new challenges that lay ahead of us, we will be taking these racing memories with us wherever we go – it will always be a cherished part of our lives and it’s now firmly entrenched in our DNA as a family.
