LESEDI MUNICIPALITY EMPOWERS JAMESON PARK COMMUNITY THROUGH FIRE SAFETY AWARENESS

Today, Lesedi Local Municipality through its Fire and Rescue Services, hosted a Fire Prevention and Community Safety Awareness Programme at Jameson Park Community Hall.

The programme brought together various stakeholders to educate residents on fire prevention, disaster preparedness, first aid, emergency response, LP gas safety, road safety, social relief assistance and gender-based violence awareness.
Residents actively participated in discussions, particularly on the safe handling of LP gas and accessing support following disasters.

The initiative forms part of the Municipality’s ongoing commitment to building safer, informed and disaster-resilient communities through education and stakeholder collaboration.
Together, we can prevent fires, save lives and build safer communities. 🚒

The Final Ordinary Council Sitting For Lesedi Local Municipality

Lesedi Local Municipality held its final Ordinary Council Sitting of the term yesterday on the 30th September 2026, bringing to a close five years of service, commitment and dedication by the current Council.
The sitting provided an opportunity for Council leadership and councillors to reflect on the journey of the past five years, acknowledging both the achievements and challenges experienced along the way.
Reflecting on the term, the Speaker of Council Cllr Phindi Mpemvu, described the five-year journey as a success, while acknowledging that it was not without its share of turbulence. The Speaker highlighted the resilience of Council and its ability to navigate challenges collectively, overcome difficulties and continue serving the residents of Lesedi Local Municipality.
The Executive Mayor Cllr Mluleki Nkosi echoed these sentiments in reflecting on the term, noting the various experiences and challenges encountered during the five years. The Executive Mayor acknowledged the contribution made by councillors, officials and other stakeholders towards ensuring that the municipality continued with its mandate of serving communities.
Other councillors also took the opportunity to share their personal reflections on the term, expressing appreciation for the experiences, lessons and relationships built during their time in Council. Their reflections captured the significance of public service and the responsibility entrusted to elected representatives to serve their communities.

Honouring Long-Serving Councillors

As the sitting drew to a close, a special moment was dedicated to recognising councillors who have served the municipality and its communities for 10 years and more.
Through the Speaker of Council, the Municipal Manager Mr S'busiso Dlamini presented certificates of recognition to the following long-serving councillors:
• Cllr M. Boshoff – 20 years
• Cllr M.N.R. Nkosi – 14 years
• Cllr G.C. Holtzhausen – 13 years
• Cllr T.J. Gama – 10 years
• Cllr M.S. Lukhele – 10 years
• Cllr T. Motsepe – 10 years
• Cllr S.J. Mnyakeni – 10 years
• Cllr S.H.A. Paul – 10 years
• Cllr L.S.A. Gamede – 10 years
• Cllr M.E. Magazi – 10 years
• Cllr M.V. Motsepe – 10 years
• Cllr B.V. Mogorosi – 10 years

The recognition celebrated years of commitment to public service and the communities of Lesedi, with some councillors having dedicated two decades to municipal leadership.
The final sitting was therefore not only a conclusion to the Council term, but also a moment of reflection, appreciation and recognition. Even though their work will continue till the 4th of November 2026. It marked the closing chapter of five years characterised by achievements, challenges, lessons and perseverance.
Lesedi Local Municipality congratulates all the long-serving councillors on this significant milestone and extends its appreciation to all councillors for their service and contribution during the term.

O.R. Tambo Soncini Social Cohesion Games 2026 Hosted in Lesedi
Lesedi Local Municipality, Bringing Young Athletes Together Through Sports

Lesedi Local Municipality hosted the 2026 O.R. Tambo Soncini Social Cohesion Games on 26 September 2026, bringing together young athletes from across Emfuleni, Midvaal and Lesedi Local Municipalities.
The O.R. Tambo Soncini Social Cohesion Games are a flagship programme of the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, using sport as a powerful vehicle to promote social cohesion, youth development, community participation and the identification of emerging sporting talent.
The programme was established following a 2016 Memorandum of Understanding between the Gauteng Provincial Government and the Emilia-Romagna Region of Italy and was officially launched in 2017 as part of the O.R. Tambo Centenary celebrations. The initiative has since grown into an important platform for young people to participate in sport while building relationships across communities and cultures.
The Games are aimed at young people between the ages of 14 and 19 years and are implemented in partnership with municipalities, sporting bodies, federations and school sport structures. The programme follows a phased approach, beginning with local and municipal competitions and progressing to district and provincial levels. It also includes an international exchange component linked to the Tricolour Games in Reggio Emilia, Italy, further strengthening the relationship between Gauteng and the Emilia-Romagna Region.

The 2026 OR TAMBO GAMES hosted in provided a vibrant platform for young athletes to compete in soccer, netball, boxing and basketball. Beyond the sporting competition, the Games created an opportunity for young people from different communities to interact, build friendships, demonstrate discipline and teamwork, and celebrate the unifying power of sport.
For Lesedi Local Municipality, hosting the Games underscores the Municipality’s commitment to creating opportunities for young people and supporting initiatives that contribute to community development, social inclusion and a stronger sense of belonging.
The successful teams and athletes from the district competition will progress to the next level of the O.R. Tambo Soncini Social Cohesion Games, where they will represent Sedibeng District and continue their journey in the competition.
Through initiatives such as the O.R. Tambo Soncini Social Cohesion Games, sport continues to play an important role in developing young talent, creating opportunities for youth and strengthening social cohesion across communities in Gauteng.
