Exuberance is beauty.
—William Blake

"The Sensation of Biting Into a Peach And Letting The Juice Run Down Your Chin" takes its title from a book by Timothy Morton and is inspired by Georges Bataille’s general economy and the excess of energy that translates into the effervescence of life. We envisioned an interpretation of works that could resonate against each other while dealing intensely with formal and historical challenges, either through witty and direct suggestions or by establishing complex universes of language and thought. Therefore, we—artists and the curatorial team—aspire to divest ourselves of using and abusing a concept to arouse aesthetic ways of understanding what can be called the human condition.

Curated by ENTKUNSTUNG and Herwig Scherabon, and supported by DOCK11, the show is about energy, and therefore, about pleasure, taboos and excess.

We need the tonic of wildness.

As part of the launch of his new publication, Restoration to a Better Past, we had the pleasure of visiting Jorma in his studio and conducting a beautiful interview. We talked about many issues: about our suffering world, about his projects, but most of all, about the fragility of life.

It is an honour to publish both his book and this pleasant conversation. Thank you very much, Jorma!

With Restoration to a Better Past, Jorma Mueller proves that nostalgia is aere perennius—and fragile and eternal as time.

NEW PUBLICATION
Restoration to a Better Past is a photography book by Jorma Mueller.

What an honour and joy to have worked with Jorma on this book. A publication based on attention to detail and care. We wanted to transmit Jorma's warmth and humbleness, his intimate approach to his surroundings and careful photography. Thank you, Jorma, for these lovely months working on Restoration to a Better Past.

In Jorma Mueller's photography there is margin for a biographical hypothesis and glimpses of something that has been lost. A vision of the present as ebb and flow is almost inevitable in the experience of his work.

Subjectivity is melancholic, and that melancholy contains the evocation that restores the legacy for which others risked their fate. A physical, vital, experiential link with the world has eroded between the time of those anachronistic soldiers and that of the men and women of a taciturn river.

Restoration to a Better Past, and its set of mirrors, is the continuation of that aesthetic and personal search visible in Jorma’s previous works. However, the pieces that make up this book are not always imaginary refraction but an oblique truth that supports reality.

In the construction of a narrative several texts can remain without any connection to each other until a new one turns them into something different from what they were before. The drift of time, memory, nostalgia for that world that could have been and that at the same time was, are the axis on which this publication rests.

With Restoration to a Better Past, Jorma Mueller proves that nostalgia is aere perennius—and fragile and eternal as time.
