Each fall, Sandhill cranes make their way through Yuma as part of their annual migration south for the winter. Along the way, they pass through agricultural areas like ours, where fields become part of the habitat they use to rest and forage.

Their return is a reminder that healthy, productive farmland can support more than crops. It can also provide valuable habitat for wildlife moving through the region.

We always look forward to welcoming these seasonal visitors back to Yuma!

When biosolids are land applied, they produce lower greenhouse gas emissions compared to other management practices, including landfilling and incineration, according to the EPA. At the same time, land application puts valuable nutrients and organic matter back into the soil, where they can support healthy crop growth.

By putting biosolids to beneficial use in agriculture, land application supports a more sustainable management approach that’s a win for both agriculture and the environment. 🌱🌾

As dove season gets underway in Arizona, we welcome hunters to enjoy the season while respecting our active agricultural operations.

Stay off active sites, clean up after yourself and please, for everyone's safety, aim clear of people, buildings and equipment. Active sites are areas where crops are growing or where biosolids are being applied to prepare the soil for future crops. These areas may appear darker in color than surrounding fields, and spreading equipment may be present.

We appreciate your cooperation and hope everyone has a safe and successful dove season!

A big thank you to reporter Carmen Marquez of KAWC for touring our farm and spending time with our dedicated team.

Read or listen to part one of her three-part series where she explains the science, testing and facts about biosolids in Yuma: https://www.kawc.org/news/2026-09-03/part-1-biosolids-agriculture-and-growing-concerns-in-yuma-county

We enjoyed having Carmen from KAWC Colorado River Public Media out to the farm! She took the time to experience our operation firsthand, meet with two of our managers and ask great questions about the science behind what we do.

Thank you, Carmen, for the thoughtful conversation and for taking the time to learn more about our work. We’re looking forward to seeing your piece soon!

Agriculture is a major destination for beneficially reused biosolids.

According to EPA’s reported end-use data, 53% of land-applied biosolids were reported for agricultural use, including applications to cropland, pasture and rangeland.

Land application is a well-established use of biosolids, providing an opportunity to return nutrients and organic matter to the soil while putting a treated material to beneficial use.

Did you know biosolids can help with dust?

The organic matter biosolids add to the soil helps improve its structure, making soil particles more stable and less likely to be carried away by the wind.

We grow sudangrass for livestock feed, but this heat-loving crop has some added perks!

Sudangrass grows quickly and thrives in Arizona’s heat, making it a versatile crop that can be harvested multiple times throughout the growing season.

As it grows, sudangrass can help compete with weeds, and its extensive root system helps support healthy soil structure. And sometimes, instead of harvesting another cutting, the crop can be disked back into the soil, returning plant material and organic matter to the field.

We’re always looking for ways to make the most of every crop and every growing season.
