“Couldn’t put it down!” Debbie York County Libraries was mesmerized by Kristin Hannah’s “Magic Hour”. Beautifully written, very atmospheric, and set in the extraordinarily lush wilderness of the Olympic National Forest in Washington State. As with all of Kristin Hannah’s novels, it features a compelling story and wonderful characters, while exploring the intriguing concept of “feral children”.

Originally published in 2006, “Magic Hour” was reprinted in 2021 under the title “Wild”. One book, two titles, identical content, and both are available in print in our YCL collection https://bit.ly/4tWakej, with “Magic Hour” also available in audiobook. Looking for an eBook format? Find “Magic Hour” on our Libby app.

Wonderfully Strange! Ellen Glatfelter Memorial Library unearthed a gem, “The Antidote” by Karen Russell. Definitely not your average read, The Antidote is a multi-layered book that incorporates magical realism, features a time-traveling photographer, and provides an historical account of the Dust Bowl. If you're looking for a read that defies the ordinary, this one's a must-read. Reserve a copy in regular or large print 📖 at https://bit.ly/4eQquAW. Also available in ebook on the Libby app!

"The Antidote" opens on Black Sunday, as a historic dust storm ravages the fictional town of Uz, Nebraska. But Uz is already collapsing—not just under the weight of the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl drought, but beneath its own violent histories.
