This heat wave is no joke! As a real estate agent (and someone who tours A LOT of homes), I’ve seen some smart — and simple — ways to keep your house cool without maxing out your electric bill.

Here are my top tips:

🌀 Use ceiling fans properly – Make sure they’re spinning counterclockwise in summer to push air downward and create a breeze.

🌞 Close blinds and curtains during the hottest part of the day – Especially on south- and west-facing windows.

🌬️ Change your air filters – Your HVAC system works harder in the summer, and clean filters help it run efficiently.

🍃 Add shade outside – A well-placed umbrella, awning, or even a fast-growing tree can make a big difference.

💡 Switch to LED bulbs – They produce less heat than incandescent bulbs (and save energy too!).
