We are a small family farm that raises pastured poultry, pork, and fresh cut flowers.

Hit evenings always yield fantastic sunsets, and working with one of your sons doing what you love is priceless. I took a picture of sawyer helping me do chores yesterday evening, and it made me think about how fortunate I am to be doing what I love and have a son who is infatuated with farming as much as I am.

There’s a reason I call turkeys lawnmowers. 30 seconds after moving them onto fresh grass, they start attacking grass, and any kind of vegetation! Watch them demolish the leaves of these autumn olive shrubs.

This is another reason turkeys are my favorite bird to raise: they LOVE grass.

Little miss piggy is starting to do better. She seems to be responding well to the anti-biotic.

How are you staying cool on hot days? Believe it or not, there is a pig in this picture 😆. She’s staying cool as a cucumber lounging in mud.

This is Cauli, she’s the gilt we’re keeping back for breeding later this fall.

Tending to a sick piglet. I’m gonna call her little miss piggy. We got some anti-biotic in her last night and another dose today. She seems to be starting to recover, but time will tell.

We’re trying to get some fluids in her now. Some pedialyte in a sq**rt bottle works well.

Here’s hoping she pulls through!

A welcome sight! Usually puddles bother me, but we need the rain. Thankful for it and the opportunity to slow down a bit for the day… we’ve been working non-stop the past couple weeks!

Let’s talk about chicken hygiene! These girls are in the shade, in a bare patch doing what chickens love to do! Dust bathe!

Dust bathing is a great way for chickens to healthy and mite free! Simple, and effective for them, but don’t expect them to NOT do this in your garden 😂

These are hens from my “retirement” flock. I keep the best 5-6 hens from every flock and allow them to roam around the barn for fly control. I don’t feed them anything, just have water for them, they just get to live their life out with no rules, just time and space. They’re more than capable of taking care of themselves!

What does anti-biotic free actually mean? Would you eat chicken or pork that was fed antibiotics? I’d love to hear your take!

Well, it’s officially summer in my book. Lightning bugs are out! It’s hard to see them in the video. But they’re out in full force!

And do not call them fireflies! They are lightning bugs! Did you know that the lightning bug is Pennsylvania’s state insect?

Also, listen closely, you can hear two owls hooting to each other. Probably the ones killing my ducks 😂. Oh well, they’re only doing what God made them do!

Proud of my little Sadie lady! She asked to help with chicken slaughter today! I told her she’s doing a better job than most adults could. She isn’t complaining either. Just helping mom and dad make a few bucks!

Teach your kids about food, and where it comes from, and they’ll never waste it!
