DOVER – Rep. Seth Grove (R-Dover) announced he will resign from office effective Jan. 31 after 17 years serving the people of the 196th Legislative District. He issued the following statement:

“Serving as the state representative for the community I grew up in has been the honor of a lifetime. This district shaped who I am, and to have had the opportunity to give back through public service is something I will always cherish. I am eternally grateful to the people who placed their trust and faith in me over the years, and I thank them for allowing me to be their voice in Harrisburg. I hope I met the expectations of the homegrown leader they believed I could be and that my work reflected the values and priorities of the community we share.

“The time, however, has come to pass the torch to the next generation. I am confident the 196th District’s future is bright, and I wish whoever has the privilege of serving its people the very best as they continue the important work of representing this great community.”

Grove was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 2008, serving on a number of committees, authoring innovative legislation and guiding budding lawmakers as they entered office.

During his time in office, Grove has held several chairmanships, including majority chair of the House State Government Committee, where he worked tirelessly to better secure Pennsylvania elections and worked on redrawing U.S. Congression district maps. As chair, he was the architect behind the largest overhaul of the Commonwealth’s 1937 election law to ensure it provided access to all legal voters, ensured every election process was secure and modernized an old law. Though the bill was vetoed, several initiatives included in it have been adopted as policy in Pennsylvania. Further, Grove, for the first time in the history of the Commonwealth, championed a citizen-drawn congressional map. While vetoed, this citizen’s map is a testament to putting the people first above partisan politics.

During his 17 years in office, Grove focused his time on providing top-tier constituent service, fighting fraud, waste and abuse; and being known as the budget maven for his work on state finances. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, dedication and being a policy wonk resulting in being named one of most effective legislators eight sessions in a row by The Center for Effective Lawmaking.

Grove also served as chairman of the House Appropriations and Labor and Industry committees; and was first chairman of the then newly created House Government Oversight Committee.

Grove leaves office for a role in the private sector.

With some winter weather in the forecast this weekend, it’s a good time to make sure your vehicle is ready for winter travel.

Make sure your vehicle is in good working order, such as checking fluid levels; that the heater and defroster are working properly, as well as your radio in order to receive weather and traffic reports; tires are properly inflated and have sufficient tread depth; and wipers and lights are working.

Try to avoid traveling in severe winter weather, but if you have to go, bring a winter emergency travel kit, including a blanket and warm clothes, jumper cables, small shovel, first aid kit, medications for you and your passengers, and water and nonperishable food.

Also, keep these safe winter driving tips in mind: Slow down and increase your following distance; avoid sudden stops and starts; beware of black ice – roads that look wet but are actually frozen; use extra caution on bridges and ramps, as they tend to freeze first; do not use cruise control while driving on snow-covered roads; remove snow and ice from windows and mirrors; and do not pass or get between trucks plowing in a plow line.

Be sure to remove snow and ice from the hood and roof of your vehicle. Under state law, if snow or ice from your vehicle strikes a vehicle or person and causes death or injury, you can be ticketed.

The Pennsylvania House Legislative Fellowship Program has begun accepting applications for its Summer 2026 session. The 10-week program, based at the Capitol Building in Harrisburg, places students in standing committee chair or House leadership offices.

Qualified applicants must be:
• College undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduates, or law school students.
• Enrolled in a Pennsylvania college/university or a Pennsylvania resident enrolled in an out-of-state institution.
• Pursuing any major with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Fellows are compensated for their work (which may also include college credits) and provided opportunities to draft and present legislation, attend meet-and-greets with various public officials and staff, and tour some of the Commonwealth’s historic sites.

The Summer Semester will run from June 4 through August 6.

PennDOT announced that the Route 74 bridge spanning Conewago Creek between Alpine Road and Conewago Road in Dover and Warrington townships is scheduled to be closed for replacement on Monday.
Weather permitting, the bridge will be closed Monday, Jan. 12. A detour of up to 240 days will be in place using Harmony Grove Road, Wellsville Road and Route 74. The new bridge is expected to open in September.
This work is part of a two-bridge contract that included preserving the Harmony Grove Road bridge, which also spans Conewago Creek in Dover and Warrington townships and was completed in October.

The 110th Pennsylvania Farm Show — the country’s largest indoor agricultural exposition –— kicks off Saturday, Jan. 10, in Harrisburg. Th event runs through Saturday, Jan. 17.

This year’s Farm Show theme, “Growing a Nation,” honors the Commonwealth’s — and Pennsylvania agriculture’s— role in building our country as we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary this year.

The 2026 Farm Show will feature fan-favorites like the 1,000-pound butter sculpture, delicious Food Court goodies, thousands of competitive agricultural events, homegrown celebrity cooking demonstrations at the PA Preferred® Culinary Connection, and more than 1 million square feet of hands-on agriculture education opportunities.

Admission to the show is free, but parking costs $15 per vehicle. Shuttle service will be provided.
