Shining Through History!
"Tea through Time" with the John Dickinson Plantation was a journey around the world, from the discovery of tea to today. This interactive program had us enjoying the different smells of tea, learning about the history of tea sets with samples from the museum, and viewing pictures shared throughout the program, all while savoring a variety of teas and sweets. A huge thank you for the well-thought-out program that kept us engaged... whether you loved tea or not!

Welcome, Kathy!

Have you heard the news? We have a new General Manager! Please, join us in welcoming Kathy Rupert!

Kathy brings more than 30 years of healthcare leadership experience to her role as General Manager—although she prefers to think of it as 30+ years of collecting great stories, solving problems, building teams, growing census, and occasionally wondering how some meetings could possibly have lasted that long.

A Registered Nurse by training, Kathy’s career has taken her just about everywhere healthcare can take a person. She has served as an Executive Director, Division Vice President of Business Development and Admissions, Corporate and Regional Director of Development and Marketing, General Manager, and Clinical Nurse Liaison. Her experience spans acute care, long-term acute care, skilled nursing, hospice, home health, senior living, behavioral health, and inpatient rehabilitation. She also spent time in the ER, which means very little rattles her—and she knows when something is actually an emergency.

Throughout her career, Kathy has specialized in leadership, operations, marketing, business development, physician and professional relations, census growth, and building strong referral networks. But if you ask her what matters most, she’ll tell you it’s people. She believes the best organizations are built by developing genuine relationships with employees, residents, families, referral partners, and the communities they serve. She loves building teams where people enjoy coming to work and creating communities where residents truly feel at home.

Community involvement has also been an important part of Kathy’s life. She has devoted many years to volunteering and fundraising, particularly with the American Diabetes Association. She served on local ADA Community Leadership Boards as well as the ADA National Legislative Subcommittee, where she helped establish legislative priorities and lobbied Capitol Hill for legislation benefiting people living with diabetes.

And then there’s life outside of work.

Kathy is the mother of eight and grandmother of 22, so managing a senior living community may actually qualify as one of the calmer chapters of her life.

She has always been an avid runner and while living in Hawaii, she completed three marathons—which proves either tremendous determination or a questionable ability to recognize when it’s time to stop running.

She is also a serious sports fan and is currently juggling four fantasy football teams. So, yes, she understands strategy, competition, statistics, difficult personnel decisions, and the occasional crushing disappointment on Sunday afternoon.

Kathy is excited to bring her experience, energy, sense of humor, and people-first leadership style to her new role as General Manager. She looks forward to getting to know the residents, families, and team members—and to building a community where people feel valued, supported, respected, and, hopefully, have a little fun along the way!
