At What Ails Ya, we’re on a mission to turn “I can’t” into “I’ve got this.” And thanks to an incredible community, we’ve officially donated over $7,000 worth of durable medical equipment to people who needed it most.

Transfer poles, wheelchairs, exercise equipment and more—each one helping someone move better, live easier, and reclaim a bit more independence.

Because improving quality of life shouldn’t be complicated… or expensive.

Aging in Place vs. Senior Living: The Great Debate (With Comfy Pants On)

There comes a time in life when you look around your home and think, “I know where everything is.” And that, dear reader, is power. Aging in place—remaining in your own home as you grow older—offers something priceless: familiarity. The coffee maker hums the way you like it. The light switch is exactly three steps from the bed. The neighbor knows your dog’s name and your preferred political rant length.

Aging in place preserves independence. You decide when to wake up, what to eat, and whether pants are truly necessary before noon. There’s emotional comfort in staying rooted in your memories—the pencil marks on the wall that once tracked growing kids, the garden you’ve perfected through trial and tomato error. With smart home modifications, grab bars, better lighting, and perhaps a little mobile support from healthcare pros, home can evolve with you.

On the other hand, senior living communities offer something equally powerful: convenience. Imagine retiring from yard work forever. Snowstorms become something you watch from the window with cocoa, not a shovel. Meals appear without grocery lists.
