So a couple weeks have gone by and I've been a little busy and I haven't posted the progress of the house. I will try to get all caught up this week! After the slabs are dry it is time to start framing the house up. We start by building the exterior walls of the basement.

During the time that the foundation has been curing we have completed the underground plumbing, got the foundation damp proofing done, the water and sewer connections complete and the perimeter drain in place. Now it is time to start filling in the dirt around the foundation.

While we wait for the foundation to cure it is time to get the underground plumbing done. These pipes connect to the sewer line to take all the waste out of the house.

Facebook friends here is your chance to get in on the fun. We have narrowed down a couple different doors styles we are considering for our new house and can't decide which one to go with. Each of these doors can be stained in various colors (the stains don't always match in the pictures which is just a limitation of the website, but rest assured they will match in reality) and can be made with or without the sidelights. Vote for your favorite door in the comments next to the one you like best and let us know if you prefer it with or without sidelights. Share this post with your friends and the door that gets the most positive remarks will be the one that gets put in!

We let the concrete sit in the forms for about 24 hours and then the next day we strip the aluminum forms off and Viola! beautiful foundation walls! Concrete takes some time to cure so we will wait a minimum of 10 days before we start putting the soil back in place around the foundation in order to allow it time to get nice and strong.

Using aluminum panels called forms we create an 8" wide empty channel on top of the footers all the way around the house. In this case the forms are 9' tall at the front of the house and then step down according to the grade of the lot to create a walkout basement in the back. Inside the forms we place horizontal and vertical rebar tied together to give the wall strength. Once all the forms and rebar are in place and the engineer has inspected everything the channel gets filled with concrete.
