Top Mistakes Businesses Make in Ordering Signage

Today starts off an educational series in which we brush over easy-to-digest sign topics for businesses. The top mistakes made by businesses in ordering signage include:

- Choosing price over visibility – what good is your sign, or the investment you put into your sign, if it isn’t suitable for the consumer’s distance, location, or speed in passing your location? Making sure that your materials, size, and scale/readability fit the location is foundational.

- Ignoring nighttime visibility – sure, nonilluminated signs are cheaper, but you’re losing approximately a third of each day not being seen. This especially goes for businesses needing to constantly remind prospective customers what they offer.

- Not checking city code first – choosing a signage company with a permit office is key to not having expensive surprises later. Some residential areas are not going to allow digital signage, and most will have permitting requirements, especially in the instances of monument or pylon signage.

- Using unreadable fonts – sure, that font is cool, but is it readable? Font selection, design, and color must be adjusted by how it is seen, and what the day/night effect is. Graphics that are blurry or hard to see frustrate people and diminish your brand.
Signage selection has many more components than those listed above, and it’s good to educate yourself.

The illuminated exterior cabinets are constructed of 6” deep square tube frame with aluminum returns and back, painted to specifications.
