Don’t know who said this, but it speaks powerfully to me this week:

“Your very deep sense of failure is a sure sign that you are growing nearer to the Lord. Remember too, that it is only struggle that hurts. In spiritual, mental, or physical laziness there is no sense of failure or discomfort. But with action and effort, you are conscious not of strength, but of weakness.”

2 Cor 12:9. “For My strength is made perfect in weakness.”

STRENGTHENING YOUR HUMAN SPIRIT
by Sattyanand Scrivner & Aaron Evans

One of the emphases of the Spirit during this season while we are all required to ‘shelter in place’, is to strengthen and sensitize our human spirit to the Holy Spirit.

Four basic activities to help us come into alignment with the Holy Spirit are:
1. Meditating in the Word of God (Joshua 1:8)
2. Practicing the Word of God (James 1:22)
3. Giving the Word of God first place(Proverbs 4:20-22)
4. Instantly Obey the voice of our Spirit (Acts 23:1 and Proverbs 20:27)

Our good friend Sattyanand Scrivner gives us some further steps to help us dwell and grow in the things of the Spirit~Aaron Evans

“Reaching for Growth, not just Responding to Crisis

“In early March, I was thinking about what response the Lord was looking for during the COVID19 crisis, especially in light of the more severe shakings that will come before the Lord’s return. I had a strong sense that in the midst of the many ways the church is “responding” to the crisis, God’s deeper intention was for His people to grow in understanding the concept of what it means to “dwell” or “abide” in Him. The highlighting of “dwell” in context to a significant “shaking” experience makes sense. When searching related scriptures, you discover a connected reality. The security and blessing that is so longed for and required during unstable times is joined to the “dwell” reality. The concept of dwelling is nothing new to most, but at the same time it seems to be almost written in smoke, hard to get your hands on. If what I heard is timely, God has an open hand offering clarity and understanding to bring this truth out of the theoretical, into a more common experience. A transition like this will inspire growth and maturation in the larger church, which will help prepare her to not only endure future crisis but shine more brightly during it.

“Reconsidering Our Position in Prayer and Devotion

“First consideration is a point of repentance and faith in the context of prayer and devotion. Leaving behind an orientation of “bringing ourselves” to prayer and devotion, in favor of assuming and furthering our identity as partakers of His Spirit by receiving “dunamis” (Greek word for might or power – think dynamite) to fill our prayer and devotion.

“We have a natural tendency to (whether consciously or unconsciously) bring a “honey-do” or “wish” list and lay it out before the Lord, with a “please” and “thank you” added. Our wishes and desires may rightly occupy a seat at the table, but they seem to have taken up residence in the place of honor. It can be difficult because supplications are usually made with good intentions for things that may have a place in His heart. For this reason, it may sound a little critical to say the following, but even unbelievers are capable of this type of interaction with God, especially in times of difficulty and crisis. If this is the primary orientation to His heart, our default prayer and devotion experience focuses on what is lacking instead of truly partaking of His Spirit, which we have received (John 14:16-17).

“Turning Towards the Spirit of Might – Ephesians 3:16

“Paul’s prayer in Ephesians 3 gives a significant insight into how we come to dwell in Him, and find our fullness in Him. It describes continually receiving power from His Spirit in our inner being, which fills our prayer and devotion and ultimately overtakes our experience.

“Ephesians 3:16-17…that (the Father) would grant you, according to the riches of His glory,
to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith…

“In approaching prayer and devotion. Let’s put down a self-motivated dialogue in favor of firm conviction that we:
• stand under the Father’s abundant reserves to partake of the Spirit of Might
• enter the Lamb’s feast to celebrate Him and receive strength and satisfaction in our souls
• through abiding in Him, become fruitful in every good work with power and thanksgiving

“Through the release of the Spirit of Might within us, the idea of dwelling in Him turns into a down payment experience that produces deep conviction that we are in Christ and He in us. A soul will begin to learn what it is to dwell in Him and find deep root and stability.

Rev 3:20
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.

THE PROPHET

'FOREWORD

'I was sitting on a plane and I had about 20 text messages come through, each one a more important testimony or story than the last about how different friends had encountered actual prophets in our day who gave them prophetic words. These words all had stories attached and each prophet had brought different people into a place of great authority and connection in their sphere of society. Each one was a testimony of how the prophet had affected their life and how the outcome was forever different because of the word they had received. I was so excited because it was just spiritual encouragement. I heard them talking about different men and women whom God is raising up or has raised up as prophets and how prophets are alive and well in our time. I then heard clearly in my spirit that God is restoring the dignity of prophets in our time.

'Prophets in the Old Testament were the most sought-after people when anyone faced transition, crises, or national purposes in Israel and beyond. The prophets were the hosts of God's thoughts, and when people met with them this very omnipresent God made an appearance through His prophets in a way that proved that He cared very deeply about those who sought after Him.

'In the New Testament we see the prophets carry another equally important role - to help establish God's Kingdom in all the world. They were the one who helped the rest of Christians navigate their revelation and prophetic journey. The world is so hungry for the divine counsel of the Holy Spirit Who, when you meet with Him, what normally takes a year of counseling, an expensive business coach, or an educational process can happen in a moment.

'Think about the multi-billion dollar industry of psychics, new age, mediums, and the occult. Why are they so present in society? Because people are looking for spiritual guidance. People are hungry for spiritual truth that they can apply to their pain, their careers, their identities. This is such a counterfeit to the ministry of prophets who bring a connection to God's original plans and intentions in real time through the Spirit of God. And He does it free through His prophets!

'James Goll is like a master encyclopedia of the prophetic in our generation and he has released this book that helps reestablish the theology of prophets for our time. His in-depth teaching approach to a very controversial subject has created an on-ramp for everyone who is hungry to understand prophets and their role for the Church today. His materials mentor and train and are as great in perspective as they are in education. This book will give you an edge in the prophetic that the world needs right now. It will help shape the culture of how you engage your sphere of influence in the prophetic and will give you courage biblically to pursue your calling. It will also help you understand some of the hardships prophets face as well as give you insight for the different ways revelation comes.

'James has unlimited experience as a prophet that is so rare and that makes this book different. He also takes his time fleshing out the role biblically but also uses his experience to point the way. Ultimately we want to see the role of a prophet have its rightful place in the Church because it acts like having a full bank account - it is a resource we can't live without once we experience it. It adds grace to situations and accelerates everything we do when we can divinely place prophets in their authority and in relationships.

Read this book; let it fashion the role of prophet into your theology and heart so that you can pursue the healthiest form and we can restore the office of the prophet.'

2020 here we are! What amazing opportunities await us... as the world goes more haywire, the more people seek for the truth and love they are missing. Thank God for His powerful answers!
We will be continuing with our excerpts from James Goll's 'The Discerner', but because we don't want to wait to also delve into his latest meaty offering, 'The Prophet - Creating & Sustaining A Life-Giving Prophetic Culture', we will be posting excerpts from that volume as well.
To assist you in tracking, we will label each posting as DISCERNER or PROPHET.

DISCERNER
[we are in chapter 5, 'Tasting, Smelling, & Other Leadings']

'LEAVING A BAD TASTE

'Other things will seem to leave a bad taste in your mouth. You can't figure it out instantly, but you discern that something is "off", something is rotten. You can almost taste and smell it. That is when your natural senses have come under the anointing of the Holy Spirit, and things have shifted into the supernatural dimension. Or, it might be the gift of distinguishing [or discerning] of spirits in operation [see 1 Corinthians 12:10], which I describe in detail in my book 'Releasing Spiritual Gifts Today'.

'When this happens, be careful not to jump into action - or reaction - too fast. Sometimes our perception is skewed. Unhealed interior wounds, unrepented-of sin, or faulty instruction can make us suspect a problem that does not exist. Perhaps you are picking up on a real issue, but it is not yet time to do anything more about it. We need to look at things from as many perspectives as possible. Maybe when you got a taste or a whiff of bad fruit, its origin was a generational curse or a demonic spirit of darkness.

'Our top two responses when dealing with subjective revelation should always be: [1] presenting our perceived revelation back to God in prayer, asking for confirmation, and [2] inquiring of the Lord for wisdom regarding how and when to apply the revelation.'

James Goll, 'the Discerner', ch 5

[DISCERNER]

'SWEETER THAN HONEY

'Taste guides our assessment more than we realize. Some things will "taste" good to you, like the perfectly ripened fruit of the Spirit: "love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control" [Galatians 5:22-23 NASB] At least two men in the Bible, Ezekiel and John, were commanded to consume scrolls on which the word of God was written, and those scrolls tasted good to them:
"And he said to me, 'Son of man, eat what is before you, eat this scroll; then go and speak to the people of Israel.' So I opened my mouth, and he gave me the scroll to eat. Then he said to me, 'Son of man, eat this scroll I am giving you and fill your stomach with it.' So I ate it, and it tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth.' 'Ezekiel 3:1-3]
"So I went to the angel and asked him to give me the little scroll. He said to me, 'Take it and eat it. It will turn your stomach sour, but "in your mouth it will be as sweet as honey."' I took the little scroll from the angel's hand and ate it. It tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth, but when I had eaten it, my stomach turned sour. Then I was told, 'You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, languages, and kings." [Revelation 10:9-11]'

[from 'The Prophet - Creating and Sustaining a Life-Giving Prophetic Culture]

'"Would that all the Lord's people were prophets, that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them!" [Numbers 11:29]

'FOR THE MANY, NOT THE FEW

I am firmly convinced that the current prophetic empowering is intended for the many, for the rank and file "ordinary" members of the Body of Christ, not just the few, the prophetic "superstars". Successive waves of God's Spirit will continue to unfold until Christ's Church has been saturated with the spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him. [see Ephesians 1:17] Our Father God will not let up until His people are filled with the revelation of the loveliness of His Son. If that sounds inviting, you will know it's for you!

James Goll, 'the Prophet', Introduction

12/12/2019

[from 'The Prophet']

'"TASTE AND SEE"

'The Scriptures are filled with allusions to the sense of taste, and very few of them are confined to the physical ability. For example:

"O taste and see that the Lord is good; how blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!" [Psalm 34:8 NASB]
"Is there injustice on my tongue? Cannot my taste discern the unsavory?" [Job 6:30 NKJV]
"Like an apple tree among the trees of the woods, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down in his shade with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste." [Song of Solomon 2:3 NKJV]
"Then the Lord reached out His hand and touched my mouth and said to me, 'I have put my words in your mouth.'" [Jeremiah 1:9]

'"Taste" is another way to refer to discernment, isn't it? Sometimes we or discern God's goodness, other times the presence of evil. It is as if our tasting gives us eyes - or ears as in the Jeremiah passage. Often, we not only perceive what God is showing us, but we also spread the news.

'You should compare this process to a cooking competition. Television programming is filled with shows in which chefs compete for prizes, and the two primary criterion for judging are - you guessed it - taste and presentation. Taste and see.'

James Goll, 'The Discerner', ch 5

A 'teaser' tonight...

'WHERE EAGLES DARE TO FLY

'"Those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary." [Isaiah 40:31]

'Like John the beloved on the Isle of Patmos, I hear the voice of the Spirit saying, "Come up here. Come up higher." Yes, soar like an eagle above the powers of darkness and evil principalities. Rise above into an atmosphere free from spiritual warfare, contention, care, and worry. Catch the wind and be carried higher as the current freely flows and even a whisper of a breeze causes you to gain elevation. Oh, how the mighty eagle dares to fly where no two-winged creature has ever flown before.

'The prophet, like the eagle, flies higher and sees further than all of God's gifted ones. The prophet soars through the open door and rises into the place where the sky is blue, the vision is clear, and your sight is filled with third-heavenly views. As prophets, prophetically gifted people, and the long-awaited prophetic generation of courageous believers come forth you know that the Father's glorious purposes are accelerating for such a time as this.'

James Goll, "The Prophet", ch 1

'NOT GETTING STUCK ON ONE CHANNEL

'I have profiled Helen Keller at the beginning of this chapter because she shows us so clearly how, when a person is deprived of one or two of the natural senses, the other senses can shine.

'I recall a day many ears ago when I was sitting in a living room across from an older Christian gentleman who looked me over and said, "You're not hearing right now, are you?" He was referring to hearing God's voice prophetically, and he was right. It was as though I was using a radio that was stuck on one channel - and the volume had been turned down.

'I took it to the Lord in prayer: "OK, God, in what other ways could You be speaking to me?" Without becoming frustrated or self-condemning, I began to cultivate a hunger for what I now call "God's WWW" [His will, word, and ways]. I discovered that God has different times and seasons for revealing Himself to us. Only some of the time should I expect to see visions or hear heavenly words; I needed to learn to be flexible and to yield my entire self - including all of my senses - to the spiritual communication exchange.

'I may not be one of those people who is always out in front when a new thing appears - one who is called an "innovator", "inventor", or "early adopter" in the technical development world, or a "forerunner" in the Church. But I know when it is time to learn new truths, approaches, and techniques. I admire people in the Church who pave the way for the rest of us, people like Patricia King of XP Ministries. Though I am one of her ministry advisers, I probably learn from her as much as, or more than, she does from me. Patricia is a spiritual entrepreneur who doesn't give up when she faces difficult circumstances; instead, she strategizes and implements fresh ways of moving forward to do whatever God wants her to do. Like others who run on ahead of the rest of us, she gets misunderstood and criticized. But that does not slow her down. She is constantly learning and pioneering new concepts, without losing sight of God. If somehow her power of speech was taken away, she would find some other way of communicating, and she would make it exciting. Patricia will never, ever be stuck on one channel.

'Let us be inspired by those who have gone before us in developing their spiritual senses...'
