Spaght Science and Communications Magnet is the only school in the state of Kansas who has a partnership with Code to the Future. Spaght had their second school-wide showcase today, in which students at every grade level demonstrated their computer science and coding knowledge to parents, BOE members, and other district departments.

Students at Coleman Environmental Magnet celebrated May Day with their annual Biodiversity Festival which engages all students throughout the day with over 30 community partners who present lessons and activities related to environmental science and outdoor exploration.

Congratulations to Riverside Leadership Magnet, Earhart Environmental Magnet, and Mayberry Cultural and Fine Arts Magnet Middle for being recognized by Magnet Schools of America as National Merit Schools of Distinction at the BOE meeting on Monday.

The addition of a STEM teacher at Mueller Aerospace and Engineering Discovery Magnet has resulted in increased learning and engagement. While the students continue to learn science and engineering concepts in their core classes, they also have a STEM special once a week that further enriches their understanding of the Engineering theme.
Here, 1st graders learned about states of matter by combining sodium bicarbonate tablets with water in rockets that they constructed out of film canisters. The chemical reaction produced a gas, that once expanded, popped the lids off and launched the rockets skyward.
