When access to healthy food, nutrition education, and support come together, lives change. We’re seeing improved health outcomes, more energy, and more opportunities for neighbors to live healthier, fuller lives.

This week’s Food Bank Friday Fun Fact with Carol Hughes explores the impact of our Food is Medicine program. 🍎💊 Watch to learn more! ✨

5,400 Meals. 135 Minutes. 3 Rural Kansas Communities.

Summer meals are making a big impact across rural Kansas!

In just 135 minutes, three Kansas communities where we sponsor the USDA Summer Food Service Program distributed 5,400 meals to local children.

Norton Kids' Café served 211 children in just 30 minutes, distributing 2,110 meals.

Girard Public Library served 192 children in 60 minutes, distributing 1,920 meals.

Garnett Church of the Nazarene served 137 children in 45 minutes, distributing 1,370 meals.

That's enough meals to provide breakfast and lunch for 270 children for 10 summer days.

When school is out, our rural communities step up to ensure children continue to have access to nutritious food. These early numbers show just how important summer meals are for families across Kansas.

Thank you to our local partners, volunteers, and supporters who help make this program possible. Together, we're ensuring kids can enjoy a summer filled with fun, learning, and nutritious meals.

They may be used to delivering the news, but today they delivered hope!

Big thanks to the KSN TV team for rolling up their sleeves to help assemble hundreds of shelf-stable boxes of food. We appreciate your dedication to helping Kansans, both on and off the air. 🎥💙

Last fall, Ashlyn accepted a grant award from South Central Community Foundation. Today, we're celebrating the difference that support made for local children.

A $2,000 grant from South Central Community Foundation helped support the distribution of more than 3,000 Food 4 Kids packets, equivalent to nearly 21,000 pounds of food, to 131 children in Kingman, Pratt, Rice, and Stafford counties during the 2025-2026 school year.

If you recently saw Phil the Backpack getting a much-needed spa day after a busy year, this is part of the reason why! Every week throughout the school year, Food 4 Kids helps ensure children have access to nutritious, kid-friendly food when school meals are not available.

Thank you, South Central Community Foundation, for helping us fight childhood hunger and ensuring more children have the food they need to learn, grow, and thrive. 💙🎒

🎒☀️ School’s out for the summer… and Phil the Backpack has been feeling a little out of place.

This school year, Phil and the Food 4 Kids program provided food to more than 7,100 Kansas kids every week — the highest number in the program’s 20+ year history!

So, when summer break rolled around, our friends at In The Bag Cleaners stepped in with the perfect solution: a much-needed spa day. 🧼✨ They got Phil cleaned up, refreshed, and ready to get back to work feeding Kansas kids when school starts again.

A huge thank you to In the Bag Cleaners for helping Phil get his sparkle back! 💙🎒

☀️ School may be out for summer, but hunger doesn’t take a vacation.

This summer, Dillons, KAKE News, and the Kansas Food Bank are teaming up for the Summer of a Million Meals campaign to help provide one million meals for Kansas families!

From June through August, you can make a difference by:
🥫 Donating featured food items at select Dillons stores
💙 Rounding up your purchase at checkout
🙌 Volunteering as a Barrel Buddy to help transport donated food

When school is out, many children lose access to reliable meals, and food donations are often at their lowest. Every dollar and every donated item helps ensure Kansas kids have the food they need to grow, thrive, and enjoy their summer.

Together, we can turn small acts of kindness into a million meals. Learn more at kansasfoodbank.org/somm 💛☀️

We’ve all seen the climbing costs of groceries, and many of us have felt the burden of having to make hard choices when it comes to feeding our families - especially in the summertime.

To help, Menards is hosting a food drive at their Maize Rd location in Wichita now through the end of July!

If you’re shopping at Menards, consider grabbing a shelf-stable food item and dropping it in the donation bins by the store entrance & exit.

Big thanks to our friends at Menards for helping our neighbors this summer!
