We as Domesticated Primates use derivatives of the term “poo” to refer to things. Some of those “things” are other primates we don’t like (when chimpanzees learn sigh language, they use it to ‘talk sh*t’). Few musicians go on stage marking their performance territory with excretions, throwing poo, or presenting their behinds during squabbles with bandmates. But some do. This is what’s called a Circuit Two problem (ha, ha).

Musical Circuits Melodic Exercise

Mi ~ Circuit 3
Say and Play ~ choose your favorite adage. Repeat it out loud until it develops into a fluent fluid rhythm (For a great example of this check out Ep. 7 of Rational Funk by Dave King). Then, start playing along to every syllable on your chosen instrument.

So ~ Circuit 5
Bliss ~ sing the adage from the previous exercise in a way that makes you laugh. Try to be as uninhibited, charming and beatific as possible.

La ~ Circuit 6
Link ~ Attempt to link to a past or future self that experiences this adage as being momentarily true. Make an attempt at metaprogramming this adage into your life. Fake it ‘til you make it!

Encode ~ while singing the adage in your most charismatic voice (C5), engineer the probability that this adage might actually be “true.”
Decode ~ What might it look like if it were? What might you be doing? What circumstances would be necessary in order to experience the truth in your chosen adage? Use the imagination!

So ~ Circuit 5
Tonal Nutrition ~ take all of the consonants out of the preferred adage, and vibrate the vowels that are left into different parts of the central channel, high notes in the head, and low notes in the pelves, the rest somewhere in between. Make it resonate!

Articulation ~ now focus on making the rhythm and melody as clear and uncluttered as possible.
