How Fungal vs Bacterial Acne Differ ⤵️

Understanding the difference in these forms of acne is key to choosing the right treatment!

One of the easiest ways to spot Pityrosporum acne, aka fungal acne, is visually: it appears as small, uniform-sized bumps.

Bacterial acne shows up in varied sizes as whiteheads, blackheads, and deeper angry cysts.

Sweat and humidity can aggravate fungal acne so we tend to see it more in the summer.

Since the root cause is different, traditional acne treatments don’t work here. This needs to be treated with anti antifungal creams (like clotrimazole) or dandruff shampoos containing ketoconazole. If those products don’t work, then oral medications may be necessary.

Warmer weather is finally here and so are skin issues that thrive in summertime…

Impetigo is a highly contagious, superficial bacterial skin infection common in younger kids.

It usually happens through minor cuts, insect bites, scrapes, or rashes, and typically appears on the face.

If you suspect the infection with one of your little ones, make sure not share towels, washcloths, utensils, etc as it can easily pass to family members.

Mild cases are typically treated with topical ointments, and more severe or widespread cases may require oral antibiotics.
