The humidity has arrived, and with it comes fungus, also known as Brown Patch and Dollar Spot. They appear when the nights are cool and the days hot. They can kill entire areas of a lawn. What can be done?
-Don’t water at night
-Try not to water past 8:00am
-Reduce nitrogen application
-Promote air circulation over your lawn by trimming up lower branches of trees
-Apply a fungicide as a preventative, or a curative if you already have a fungus

This week we started applying our Bee Friendly grub control. Grub worms can do extensive, costly damage to your lawn. The most effective way to mitigate that is by applying an insecticide. However, unfortunately bees are insects, and susceptible to most insecticides. We use a “Bee Friendly” product, and have for several years now. Bees are a vital part of our ecosystem, and worth protecting. If you have questions, let us know TheShowcaseLawn.com

The temperatures are rising, and the rains are getting less frequent. Is your lawn getting enough water? Here are some helpful tips.
-A lawn needs 1”-1 1/2” of water per week. -Deep and infrequent waterings are the best, twos day on, and a day or two off, then water again.
- A standard irrigation system should deliver an inch per hour.
-Try to be finished before 7:00am

We’ve been getting plenty of rain, but that could change soon. If you have an irrigation system, now is the time to get it ready. Plus the water company is going to want that back flow test sent in. Let us know if we can help.

It’s time to get those irrigation systems prepared for the Summer, it will be here before you know it. We’re setting our systems for twice per week. Too much water now, will make it difficult to get enough later when it really gets hot & dry, you can always add a day or two when the time comes. If you need help, let us know. TheShowcaseLawn.com

These April & May rains really have the grass green and growing. If you have to mow watch out for wet spots, keep those blades sharp, and try not to take off more than 1/3 of the grasses height in a single mowing. If you must, bagging or raking up the clippings would be a great idea. If there’s anything we can do to help, please reach out TheShowcaseLawn.com

As important as the rain is, it would sure be nice to spread it out a bit. Do your best to avoid heavy mowers in areas that hold water. It’s been a busy week for the crew keeping up with the mowing, meanwhile, we’re applying Second Round fertilizer & broadleaf w**d control. Let us know if we can help you with any of your lawn care needs. TheShowcaseLawn.com

It’s getting that time of year where the some of the lawns are getting a white appearance, many people think it’s w**ds, but it’s just some grass varieties going to seed. You’ll notice a little plume of seeds on the top.
Turf tip of the week: make sure your mower blades are sharp. Eventually the plants will cycle through and the seed heads will stop. As always, we’re here to help. TheShowcaseLawn.com

Providing your lawn with the proper nutrients can really make a difference. This picture was taken early March, when we applied our Early Spring fertilizer + crabgrass preventer. That green is from the nutrients we applied in the late Fall. Feed the soil, grow great grass. That’s the Showcase difference. Let us know if we can help. TheShowcaseLawn.com

The grass is growing and the lawns are looking great. We’re on our fourth week of mowing, but we’ve seen a few lawns out there that haven’t been mowed yet. If that’s you, try not to leave lots of clippings on your lawn. Excess clippings can smother the grass underneath. It also adds more moisture at the surface which can aid in more growth. If you haven’t applied your crabgrass preventer, get some down. It may not provide 100% prevention, but it’s better than nothing. As always, we’re here to help. TheShowcaseLawn.com
