🚨 340B Rebate Model Update

HRSA has published the approved manufacturer plans for the 340B Rebate Model Pilot Program, another major step toward the January 1, 2027 start date.

For covered entities, this means the operational requirements around submission, status tracking, payment and reconciliation are becoming much more concrete.

Covered entities have less than 100 days before the rebate model goes live.

The 340B program may be changing hands. Reports indicate HHS plans to move oversight from HRSA to CMS by the end of September, a shift three years in the making.

Why it matters: CMS operates at a different scale than HRSA, with more enforcement resources and a higher bar for transparency. Covered entities should expect closer scrutiny of their data, regardless of when the transfer becomes official.

Another 340B requirement takes effect today.

Effective September 15, Johnson & Johnson is requiring covered entities to submit claims data for 340B-eligible J&J covered outpatient drugs, adding another manufacturer-specific reporting requirement for 340B teams to navigate.

We know this is not the kind of change covered entities are asking for. It means another requirement to understand, another workflow to manage, and more administrative responsibility for teams that already have plenty on their plates.
