Having a blast at the 2026 conference in Baltimore!
After a session this morning, I was reminded about how Test-optional does not mean test-irrelevant.
A strong SAT or ACT score can still give colleges a valuable data point — especially when they’re comparing students with similar grades, rigor, activities, and essays.
Without scores, admissions offices lean more heavily on the rest of the application: transcript, course rigor, recommendations, essays, activities, and context.
So the real question isn’t, “Are scores required?”
It’s: “Would a strong score make this application stronger?”
In many cases, the answer is still yes.
