Waterloo Fire Rescue

⚠️🚨 Please note our non-emergency line will be down for approximately 3 hours tomorrow. This does NOT affect 911 emergency calls. See the press release below for more information.

Today begins Fire Prevention week. We will be joining fire departments across the nation presenting in schools and providing tours and education on fire safety. This year's NFPA theme is Charge into Fire Safety. To quote the late renowned Phoenix Fire Chief Brunacini, "if we are recounting a fire response" we have already lost. Our ultimate goal is to prevent injury and fires from occurring.

Our firefighter memorial will take place this Sunday at 4pm (425 E 3rd Street). The public is welcome to attend as we honor and celebrate the courage and service of firefighters - past, present and future. Our department takes this event very seriously, please keep distractions to a minimum throughout the ceremony.

A big thank you to Matt Hennig with State Farm for the Fire Prevention Week handouts! We have our open house and lots of school visits next week where we’ll be talking with kids about the importance of fire prevention & safety. These handouts will be a great way to help us make fire safety education fun and engaging for our community.

Friday we were presented a generous food gift of appreciation from our departing Station 1 headquarters neighbor Los Reyes restaurant. We wish you the best of luck at your new location.

Earlier this Spring, Chief Beck and Engineer TJ Schaffer sat down with Story Corp to discuss their experience as first responders during the Covid-19 epidemic. All of StoryCorps stories are located in the Library of Congress.

TJ Schaffer and William Beck Friends and coworkers Theodore "TJ" Schaffer (54) and William "Bill" Beck (52) have a conversation about their experiences in the Waterloo Fire Department during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A quick reminder that our 9/11 blood drive just started. This will be held at the Marriott hotel conference room in Waterloo and walk ins are welcome. Come help us support a great cause in rememberance of the 9/11 tragedy.

Today on Patriots Day, WFR would like to remember those we tragically lost on 9/11 twenty-five years ago as a result of terrorist attacks on our country. On that day the FDNY would launch the largest fireground rescue operation effort in fire service history without hesitation. Many other multitude acts of valor by both emergency personnel and civilians took place on that day where man and woman sought to help each other in need.
